'96 Serpentine Belt Question.
3.8L
I am using this diagram from Autozone: The old one snapped off. I put the belt on, am 90% sure it is on correctly, but I cannot tighten it. Am I supposed to tighten the bolt on the Drive Belt Tensioner Pulley (#4) or do I need to get to the Drive Belt Tensioner (#7) to tighten this bad boy? I have tried to tighten #4, but it seems to make no difference, and seems like it is just there for routing purposes. |

Re: '96 Serpentine Belt Question.
Hi
If you have threaded it properly, you should have a very difficult time pulling it over the last pulley. If it is loose, you either do not have it around all the pulleys or you have the wrong size belt. |

Re: '96 Serpentine Belt Question.
Thanks, I will recheck the threading. I have double checked the belt on Autozone's website.

Re: '96 Serpentine Belt Question.
Hi,
from the topside of the engine, get a 15mm wrench onto #7 ready to pull toward the front. (clockwise from Passenger side). Get all slack directly above #1. Pull wrench on #7 toward the bumper, hard! (with your right hand.) slip belt over #1. (with your left hand) |

Re: '96 Serpentine Belt Question.
Should #7 be free moving? Meaning, should I be able to turn it by hand like the other pulleys? If so, that may be the problem. It doesn't move at all.
