Wierd howling noise comming from my engine bay
Ok now something is making a low pitch wistling noise. I think it's comming from the drivers side under the engine bay, maybe alittle towards the middle of the car or drivers side, some where in that general area. But anyways, when driver the car, and the engines winding up, I here a whistling noise until I here the turbo spool, then the turbo drowns out the noise but it's still there. Riverside Mitsu said it could be my altenator howling but I don't know. What do you guys think it is?????? Oh yeah, add a Mustang GT and a 350z to the kill list

Re: Wierd howling noise comming from my engine bay
Could be the water pump going bad. Keep a close eye on your temp gauge, and if it rises past halfway, you know you've had bearing failure of the water pump, and pull over.

Re: Wierd howling noise comming from my engine bay
2001 dodge grand caravan 3.3 engine, 2wd. When I shut the engine off the altenator is making a winding down sound. I looked into the altenator and on the right side there is a propeller that continues to rotate and this sounds like the the winding I hear. When the engine is shut down the propeller only turn for about 4-5 seconds. Is this a sign or warning of a serious problem? Do I need to replace the altenator.

Hi. Couple things.
-This is a Eclipse, Talon, Laser forum. 89-99. Please post in the appropriate section. -This thread is almost 4 years old. Don't bring back old threads from the dead. I understand you probably searched on Google or something and came across this. But please pay attention to the sections and thread date. Thread will be locked by a mod. In the meantime... The alternator spins with the motor. So when motor turns off, the alternator will stop spinning. Check the belt and see if it's torn up or worn down at all.
