Question R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

I removed the ECU so long ago I forget how it mounts back in there. Does somebody have a diagram or a picture or a thread that shows the mounting config? I checked my manual, and all over utube, and search engines.

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

Here are a couple diagrams from the manual. It is located behind the glove compartment. GM manual very skimpy on how to change it; Haynes says to remove the lower panel to access it but I seem to recall that also removing the glove box in its entirety helped give more access. It just clips in and is secured by a nut. Not sure if it would help to install the 3 gang connectors first before fitting into final position-you may have to play with it to see

I have a manual but I can't seem to find anything in there. Your diagrams don't look familiar. I should post a couple pics of the configuration. I'll do that as soon as possible. Thanks a ton.

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

I am having trouble uploading some pictures of the PCM/ECM and the vacuum junction. I see where the vacuum junction block mounts with 2 screws but I'll be danged if I can remember how and where exactly the ECM attaches under there.

One pic per post because of size.

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

Is there some clips that go in those little slots on the side of the ECM?

I can't seem to upload anymore pictures.
This is frustrating that I can't remember how it came out of there.

Unhappy Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

Does it have something to do with this. Is there a bracket that fits in there?

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

The PCM mounts on the firewall on passengers side, behind the convivence centre shelf. It has been a while since I changed mine so the memory is a little foggy. I believe the bracket as shown in the first diagram is an 'L" shaped bracket that I think also has a small lip bent at the bottom to hold the PCM case in place. The hook as shown just beside the arrow in the diagram holds the case in place at the top.
The manuals all state to just remove the lower hush panel and install the PCM. I found it was too awkward for me to be outside the van and try to push the PCM case up against the hook and slip the case into the bracket- both the back and the gut rebelled.
Instead I removed the glove box to give me access to the top of the PCM case, tilt the case slightly out at the top, and slip the bottom into the bracket. Using both hands push down on the case while using the thumbs to gently bend the hook up to slip the case into the upper part of the bracket. GM manual doesnt mention it but the Haynes manual says there is a nut on the left side of the case to fasten it down. It has been too long since I did this to recall whether or not there was in fact a nut

If that is the same config on my 1993 then I must have lost a bracket or two. It doesn't seem familiar at all. I might have to go to the wreckers to get my hands on things. It bugs me when my memory fails me.
Thanks a ton though. I will keep you abreast.

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

I have had microfiche for 1990 to 1995 U body for a while, but only just managed to get a reader for it. Looked up the PCM mounting, and they are very different for 92-93 vs 94-95.
The bracket is a different design there seems to be a plate bolted at the bottom as well as bolts at the top.
I don't have the microfiche converted to digital, so here is a photo of the assembly, hope you can make it out

Re: R&R ECU 1993 Trans Sport 3.8L

It is hard to make out that picture but it looks like I am missing a bracket. I have to go through the parts containers. Will get back.
Thanks!
