300ZX brakes
Well my rear brakes are done so I thought I might as well upgrade the brakes, I'm ganna do all 4 wheels, I just want to make sure I know the parts I need.
Front: - calipers - rotors - pads - lines Rear: - calipers - rotors - pads - lines - drum - shoes - i know im missing something here..... and the MC...could someone help me out? Oh and also, I remmeber hearing that aluminium is lighter, but iron is better for heat and whatnot, is that true? |

Front
Calipers -Duh (get the 30mm, 26mm Rotors are more expensive) Rotors - Need to be redrilled Pads - get good ones... the cheapies dont have good retainers Lines - OEM will work by grinding them down a little... but SPLs are 45$. Rear All the same stuff as the front plus Brake Shoes - I used the ones from the junkyard but Project Mu has high intitial torque shoes. the drums are in the brake rotor so you dont need those. Parking Brake Cables - will need to be spliced into the 240 cables Parking Brake Assembly - this one is a toughy, it will need to be pressed out of a 300ZX assembly and pressed into a 240SX upright. or you can use the Z aluminum upright and Z shocks for 8lbs less weight per corner. use the Turbo upright for Hicas and the NA upright for Non-Hicas. importnut.com has a writeup using the 240SX upright. |

Re: 300ZX brakes
If I'm eliminating my HICAS, do I still need the HICAS uprights? Thx for the info.

Re: 300ZX brakes
Depends. If your using most companys Eliminators (the washers or just the inner link) then yes, you'll need the Hicas Upright.
With SPLs pro system on the other hand, you'll have to have the Non-Hicas Uprights. |

Re: 300ZX brakes
Ok, well I'm prioabbly sticking with my uprights, btw, is the Q45 master cylinder the same as the 300ZX one? I know the calipers are similar, but the Q45 ones have the pistons on the inside or something like that that makes for better wheel clearance.

Re: 300ZX brakes
the calipers are completely different.
300ZX - Sumitumo 4 piston Fixed Q45 - 2 Piston Sliding. Brake Booster Sizing: 300ZX 1 1/16in > 300ZX 1in > S14 > Hicas S13 > S13 |

Re: 300ZX brakes
ahh, ok, cool, thx man, I found this guy whos selling the complete 5 lug/300zx conversion (except for the MC) for 650$ so im ganna buy that, even if i have to rebuild the calipers and get new bearings, ithink its still a bitching deal.

Re: 300ZX brakes
Ok, turns out it's JDM S14 calipers front and back, so no drum hand brake, but I've read that it's the same calipers as the 300ZX, I know the front uses the same pads...RW240, I know you know if these are any good, lol.

Re: 300ZX brakes
The fronts will look exactly like the 300ZX 4 pistons (because they are). If you care its the 26mm wide rotor and Iron Calipers.
The Rear I think is just a little bigger piston than the USDM stuff. I dont know much about them except that a friend has it and said he felt the difference. |

Re: 300ZX brakes
Gee, thx, I had already read that, and except for the Q45 caliper thing, it didn't answer any of the questons I asked.
