Car doesnt idle too well...

My car doesnt idle too well...here we go.

When im idling the car will dip like 50 or so RPMs and sometimes that drop will feel kinda like a miss. The car sometimes on start-up...starts really rough and you have to give it some gas to get it above 1000 RPM and then it goes to the previous mentioned symptom.

Im thinking it is the Catalytic converter and that its clogged and with too much back pressure its pushing Exhaust into the cylinder as it opens on cranking. No missing or bogging after 1000 RPM.... Also if NissanFanatic could PM me how he went about using his seafoam. I was thinking of injecting it through IACV and soem into Crankcase and then some into the Fuel.

EDIT: I also plan on changing the Fuel Filter as well. Anyone know anyways of getting the Fuel Line off without having to replace the lines?

Thanks

Re: Car doesnt idle too well...

I do not think its the cat, if that was the case you have a lot more pressure in the exhaust system when the car was revving higher.

Idle can be effected by a of things. I have had my MAF screw up that effected the idle, also a coil pack, and a spark plug wire.

Re: Car doesnt idle too well...

if your basic tune up parts are ok, id say check for vacuum leaks. other than that, check timing, 02 sensor.

Re: Car doesnt idle too well...

fuel lines should come off if you slowly twist them off. don't try and use a vice grip or anything similar because that'll just rip it right off. be sure to remove the pressure before u replace b/c u'll end up shooting fuel everywhere.

if it's a s13 (relatively old, like mine) grounding issues could be it as well. Make sure the battery negative terminal is grounded well... could be lots of excess currents running everywhere.
