'05 500 Six speed a/t
Car has around 110k on it, two days ago it slips out of gear (going around 40mph, not sure which gear it was in) and makes a horrible grinding noise out of front end, sounds similar to bad brakes, but also has a whirring noise. Noise increases with RPMs, and stops when the car stops. If I put it in reverse, it's works fine, if i put it in drive, it sometimes moves about ten feet and then slips out and he noise is back. I was able to drive it back home, after stopping and starting multiple times to get it to engage. Fluid level is fine, and doesn't look or smell burnt. Anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming the trans is shot, but has anyone experienced anything similar?

Passenger side cv axle's hanger bearing had come loose from it's housing, allowed the axle to pull about halfway out of the transmission, ended up stripping the splines off the axle. New axle solved the problem. Still do not know why it came apart.
