A Few Problems with my 02 OZ Lancer.
Hey guys so I got this Lancer about 2 years ago and am now having a couple of problems with it.
1. The Power Steering/AC/Idle belt started squealing when I first started up the car in the mornings. I just figured that it was a bad belt and bought a new one and replaced it. However it still squeals, maybe not as much but it is still there. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what it could be. 2. The AC button on the control panel stays lit up. No way to turn off the Air Conditioning which happens to be a problem because the car has a bit of a harder time running while the AC is on and I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. 3. The horn trigger (AKA the steering wheel horn) wont work, I think a wire in the steering column got disconnected but the horn itself works when I lock the doors with the remote. 4. And lastly the cigaret lighter outlet doesn't work. Now I know that this is a lot but if any of you have had similar problems and might have some insight into what needs to be done I would be very grateful. Thanks! |

Re: A Few Problems with my 02 OZ Lancer.
Belt squeal is caused by a few things. Bad belt (ruled out) Belt being loose or a component locking up. Using a long screwdriver check around the couple things the belt runs and see if any of the bearings are really loud. It might just need to be tightned up. You probably need an HVAC control head. It is probably shorted out internally. Your horn contacts might be screwed up or you might have a bad horn. I *THINK* they use a separate horn for the burglar alarm. Get a test light and check for power to the horns when you push the buttons. If it is getting power and not working, you need new horns. There is a high and a low tone horn. 9/10 the cig lighter doesn't work because it has a coin in the bottom of it shorting it out. Get the coin out and replace the fuse. If it isn't that, you probably need a new socket.
