Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
A study released Tuesday said drivers who use cell phones -- even hands-free models -- are four times as likely to be involved in wrecks involving a serious injury than are drivers who do not use cell phones.

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
they get on my nerves too, how would the law get enforced though?
sure police could drive around and look for people on cell phones. to me though, it's a wasted effort. like the argument we have all heard before, police should be out trying to get the real bad guys, not trying to bust me for talking to my girl on the phone. |

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
ugh, i have to concur. i was almost side swiped by some moron talking on their cell phone and trying to read directions...and at the same time attempting to maintain 80 mph on a crowded highway.
some people are just stupid.

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
There was a blurb in Road and Track recently about a recent study that said when a 20 year old drove and talked on a hands free phone, he drove more like a 74 year old...I'm all for any laws that keep people off their phones when driving, but...they passed the law in NYS about 2 years ago, and I still see the same number or people on the phone; though it's stereotypical, I know, it's often soccer moms trying to navigate their trucks around corners with one hand while talking on the other. I wish the cops would actually try and enforce the law to make it at least a little safer around here.

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
they did a thing like that here, it was funny, they said normal people arent able to multi-task well, and they said police go through "special training" to be multi tasked to talk on the phone while driving......im able to talk on my phone and drive excellent, because i can multi task well because of my job

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
Ok, so a lot of people crash who talk on cell phones.... if you go out during the middle of the day and drive 5 miles, will you be on your cell phone for at least a few seconds? If you are like me the answer is yes. Does that mean the cell phone is what caused your wreck? No. The information they use is crap. Do you think that just because the fucktard soccer moms in their hummers that go to pick up their ONE kid from soccer practice isnt supposed to use her cell phone it is going to stop her? Hell no. Is it going to make the road any safer from people who cant drive and speak at the same time? Hell no. Laws like this are a waste of paper, I say save the trees over debating this crap. Dont get me wrong I hate idiot drivers talking on their cell phones but I dont see anything like this making the roads any safer.
Besides, the whole hands free thing makes it kind hard to bust someone on their cell phone driving, I usually put my cell phone on speaker phone when I am driving and leave it in my hand that is sitting on the shifter...will a cop ever know i am on the phone? nope. Screw banning talking on the phone in the car, lets just ban cell phones!

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
I've seen people get in their car, start up, and start driving out of the parking lot, while dialing their cell phones and not bothering to look for traffic.
We've also all seen the person with a phone glued to their ear, smoking AND shifting their manual transmission in heavy traffic. Funny, I didn't think they had 4 hands to handle all that.

Its a law to have your seatbelts buckled in a car, and for some states (i believe), you cannot talk on your phone while driving. Yet people can ride motorcycles without a helmet as long as they have their license? Can anybody tell me the logic in this? Thats what you call politics hard...ly at work.

Re: Drivers using cell phones are crashing more
There would be no way to enforce the a law of that kind . Although It horrifies me to see ppl talking on phones and trying to drive. Going down a crowded freeway and look over to see someone talking away like they have nothing better to do. Pay attention to the road!!
