Steering
1988 4runner, Auto, 35's, 22-RE
Just recently my steering started to clunk when i turn, mostly when i am going slowly though. It isn't too severe but i like to find out what this could be and is it a big concern?thanks in advance Jvd Last edited by vandok13; 10-10-2007 at 02:16 PM. |

Re: Steering
35's on IFS ? You're lucky it's just a clunk.
Could be a bad CV joint, or the steering relay rod could be worn out. It could be the steering stops have the plastic cover(s) worn off, but that usually creates more of a screeching sound.

Re: Steering
Yeah its IFS, i have been planning on a front end swap but dont have the time to do it. Its a defenate clunk, it hasnt gotten worse since it started or more frequent, it only does it once in a while. I guess i will just wait for my front end to break seeing how its smaller and weaker than the solid front end, then i will swap it. Is the best way to do it is to just buy one of those coversion kits?......My Front end is pretty fucked up though, i buaght my truck and the running gear was in peices and i assembled it best i could. It works well and i havn't had any problems yet but i could use the more flex.It would be nice to stay on all 4 tires when i go wheeling. Here are some pictures
From the front I circled in red where a peice was cut off, looks like there should be another crossmember here but the diff would be in the way From the back Any feedback would be great, i have never seen another setup quite like this and just wanted to know anything about it. Thanks in advance JvD Last edited by vandok13; 10-11-2007 at 05:44 PM. |
