if you have engine knock and ping
96 3.8 has been knocking for months, went to auto zone and got the dreaded egr flow codes,,did the DPFE change, cleaned egr valve temp sensor etc.. No change, decided to live with it. Made to 1000 mile + trips to Florida with no problems but irritation. After reading on here about the IMRC actuators I found that one was leaking vacumn. I plugged the hose and guess what? EGR system now works and NO NO MORE knock and ping or CEL. THANK YOU GUYS!!!

Re: if you have engine knock and ping
Maybe we can continue figure out how to run without these incredibly expensive, cheaply made, worthless IMRC actuators. I would be interested to know if you noticed any negative engine performance from plugging the vacuum hose. I suppose you just plugged the hose on one of them? I did the same, but used a spring to hold the actuator in the normal position for idle to 2900 rpm. I am wondering if both of these were made non functioning by plugging the vacuum hoses how the engine would perform.
