Re: Best hydraulic jack

Are you talking a floor jack for general DIY maintenance, or for some specific purpose?

Re: Best hydraulic jack

I've had two over the years, one from an auto parts chain store (got rid of it after 10 years due to a move) , and one from Sears that came with a pair of jack stands, both were modest cost, and served well for years of occasional DIY work.

Consider what you need and want; e.g., how low does it have to be, and how much lift height do you need, lift capacity (weight), size, jack handle reach, and do you want anything special on the head that contacts the car. In any case, be sure to have decent jack stands - they are arguably more important then the specifics of the floor jack.

And never trust a floor jack to hold a vehicle if you put personal body parts under the car that you cannot afford to have crushed.

I have a Craftsman, Lincoln & several others, but never had a problem with the Lincoln; if you do have a problem, they will replace it free of charge within 1-yr of purchase! Most jacks (including Craftsman) are made in China nowadays!

Re: Best hydraulic jack

Just go to your local Craigslist. They should have a very good older floor jack for $75.00 to $100.00 that is better then any of the newer jacks. The older jacks will all be made in the Good Old USA. So what if it has some grease on it. The older jack will do the job. More then likely you will find a floor jack 20 years plus old that has been used very little. Good luck. By the way you can find a lot of good used tools on your local Craigslist. I would get a floor jack that lifts at least 20 inches or more.

Re: Best hydraulic jack

Lincoln Jacks are junk and my father has proof. He bought a Snap On transmission jack which is made by Lincoln and had nothing but problems with it,LEAKING all the time finding a puddle of fluid underneath it.The Snap On dealer he had would not do anything about it.It sits in the corner not being used anymore.I believe one year he went to an auction, saw one lincoln floor jack there which had the common problem with them, leaking with a puddle of fluid onder it

I got mine used. It had a LOT of use.... hardly any paint left on it.... and it still works flawlessly.

Re: Best hydraulic jack

just to put my two cents in. i use my floor jack alot! more then most home mechanics probbly more then alot of pro shops. had a budget one from jc whitney lasted for MANY YEARS! they stopped making it & since i do alot of biz with my local napa bought one lasted about three months before it blew out , not leaking but wouldnt pump at all, napa replaced it but the next one did the same thing in less then 2 months. i bought a cheap one at al's now schucks hoping it would last at least as long as the napa one for less then half the price. that was over 8 years ago & its still going strong & have lifted way more then it is rated for many times. i dont' know if the current schucks jacks are the same but I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER NAPA JACK. EVEN IF THEY PAID ME TO TAKE IT. hope this helps someone.
