94 3.1 v6 cooling fan
Just a simple question. When driving how important is it for the fan to come on when the air conditioning is running? We have one fan for both radiator and air.

Re: 94 3.1 v6 cooling fan
Thanks to those who looked at this post. It probably seems like a stupid question but I really dont know. Every car I have had before the fan turns on during compressor operation no matter what the temperature of the engine. I think there is a bad relay but the driver of the car thinks it is normal.

Re: 94 3.1 v6 cooling fan
On my wife's 1999 one fan runs based on a temperature. The fan for the air conditioning turns on when the AC is turned on. I would swap fan relays and recheck. If it runs buy a new relay. You can use a small hammer and tap the fan motor if it runs buy a new fan motor.

Re: 94 3.1 v6 cooling fan
This is the other odd thing. There is only ONE fan on the car. My Neon is the same way and so it my Escort. My Mazda has two. This Corsica has ONE fan. It does turn on after about a minute so now we are thinking it might be the ECU. But really the question is... what if it doesnt turn on. If it is cool outside then will it hurt.

The fan needs to work but if it turns on after 1 minute it should be satisfactory.

Re: 94 3.1 v6 cooling fan
It is supposed to run if the AC compressor is engaged. That is how I test them. It probaly needs replacing. As for it not working... on open road it shouldn't be a problem but in stop and go city traffic it will let the engine overheat.
