Park-Aid, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, URPA Help! :-)

Ok, so I am trying to finish up a few last minute things to this van before the weather gets too cold here in the mid-west.

Ever since I bought this van, the rear Park-Aid has not worked. It will only flash a single red light as I back up. From all of the reading that I have done, I know that this is a problem with this system. And I also know that this system is separate from the rest of my ECM, therefore I cannot pull any codes on it.

From what I have found at this site (http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/cadidiag.html#urpa), I need to ground the diagnostic connector to get my code readout and then proceed with fixing the problem. The only issue I have is locating the URPA module to ground it. I believe it is supposed to be someplace on the passenger side, but not where at. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, if it I cant end up locating it, it there a quick way to just test the sensors instead? Thanks!

Re: Park-Aid, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, URPA Help! :-)

OK, never mind the unit location, I found it in the back passenger side panel. However I am a bit confused now and maybe it was just operator error all along?!

Here is what happened. When I grounded the wire, only the outside 2 lights would flash over and over. I assume this to mean that there really isn't any error codes to read. So then I started playing with the system. I noticed if I backed up very very slowly towards a trash can, the lights would increase to indicate a object in the way. However, if I back up rather quickly, the outside red LED just flashes. Does this indicate a problem or that this system is only designed to be used at VERY slow speeds? When I say quickly, I am only talking 3-4mph in reverse, and slowly = about 1mph.

This is the first vehicle I have ever had with this setup and I apologize if I am using it wrong, but any guidance is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Park-Aid, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, URPA Help! :-)

I just picked up a 02 Silhouette and mine is doing the same thing.. Blinking red light only.

I plan on having a look at it sometime in the near (warmer) future.

Run the diagnostic, check sensors/ wires ect..

Hopefully I can resolve and will post back with results.

Cheers
Wayne.
