So many lights
My mom was driving my 1997 lumina on the hiway for a long drive (3 hours )when the low coolent light came on , anyhow about half en' hour later the low oil light came on then about 10 min later the service engine soon light came on and i was like wtf is going on.So when we came back from that trip i filled the coolent up to the line (it was really low) and checked the engine/transmission oil.The transmission oil is fine then i looked at the engine oil dipstick and it was on "ADD 1.5 Quarts" (i think it was quarts) so i did and we ran the car for 10-15 min and none of the 3 lights did not go off so now im confused.Does the computer thing need to be reset?Any help is apreicated

Re: So many lights
Welcome Aboard!
Exactly how much coolant was added? If coolant was added only to the overflow reservoir, the system may still be low. When the engine is completely cold, remove the radiator cap and make sure the coolant level there is absolutly full to the cap. If the coolant is low in the radiator, it is likely that air will have to be bled from the engine via the two bleeder screws to completely fill the system. Once the engine and reservoir are properly filled, the low coolant warning lamp should turn off. Without filling the radiator directly and bleedfing off the entrapped air, it may take many days of heat/cool cycles to daw enough coolant into the radiator to refill the system. As for the oil warning lamp, if the warning is for oil level, ther may be a problem with the sensor. if the warning is for oil pressure, the problem would be differnt entirely. The "Service Engine" lamp may not be related to either condition. |
