1990 four runner stereo wiring

the guy i got my four runner from took the radio out of it before he sold it to me and when i went to instal my sony xplode cd player it didnt match up to none of it. well the speaker wires did but on the four runner it has a wire for the automatic antena and then a red wire and a grey wire together in a bundle and then a black wire and another grey wire in a bundle. i figured that the red would be my hot wire and the black be my ground but that obviousely is not the case because i had a test light and its not saying the red is hot its not saying any of the wires are hot and i tried twisting the red to my hot wire on my cd player and the black to the ground and it didnt do anything i am clueless and then once i do that i have to find which speaker goes to which wire it sucks if anybody knows what the deal is please tell me. thank you .

Re: 1990 four runner stereo wiring

If the truck's wiring hasn't been cut, you can buy an adapter plug.
Do you have a wing schematic for the deck?
Do you have a haynes manual with a wiring schematic?
Do you have a test light or meter?
If you connect the deck incorrectly, you may blow/ruin it.
Many decks need two power sources in order to work, one for the memory, and one to turn the deck on.
What color wires does the deck have?
What color wires in the truck are you trying to use?
Does the truck have a power antenna?

If your truck's wiring hasn't been cut, the folowing link may provide help in determinig the different pins with the stock plug.
