1994 Olds eightyeight shuts off when driving
Am having difficulty with car quitting when driving. Doesn't happen all the time. Will restart after stopping. The service in dealership has replaced fuel pump 3 times. The only other suggestion they have is brand of fuel we use. Have used same fuel for years and no one else has had this problem with this brand. Am very frustrated. Can anyone please help?

Re: 1994 Olds eightyeight shuts off when driving
A fuel pump failure is usually a basic diag/repair. You will have pressure or not or will be under minimum spec, either in the shop or on a roadtest. Yes it's not uncommon to have to tape the gague to the windshield & hit the road. Three F/P's in what I guess is a short period of time sounds like their just spinning the old wheel of misfortune & it keep's landing on F/P. Fuel brands can be a problem especially on the newer cars, but mostly causing drivability problems like hessitation, ect. I'm wondering if the same tech is working on your car when it comes back with the same problem or if it's making the rounds.
Main thing is for the tech to be able to duplicate the problem, they'll have the tech2 on it to monitor sensor readings & see what your loosing. The main things that come to mind on this car is the crank & cam sensors & the cam sensor magnet, the ignition module that can be prown to fail with a heat soak & lastly the ECM. Techs have been doing a "tap" test to check the ECM for loose circuitry on these & eventually GM came out with a bullitin on the procedure. You cant diag the thing on the net & i'm not saying to start hanging parts because there are many more possibilities & you did'nt provide much info, mileage, history, any codes set. I'm also hoping the fest of the fuel system was checked, like a fuel sample, tank inspection, filter-was it pluged & is it again?, ect. Best of luck, & let us know. |

98 cuts out
I had the same problem on my 1992 98. after many parts thrown at it , turns out it was bare wires going onto the plugin for the crank sensor, they had the insulation eatin away from oil on them and the wires were able to touch together. Maybe its worth checking?
