1991 Olds 98 Regency Radio and CD Wiring Solutions - CD Deck replacement
Good news everyone! After spending the better part of two days testing everything, I finally figured out what all the wires on the back of the Radio and CD player do and, more importantly, how they communicate to eachother. If you would like a wiring diargram, complete with pinouts and color coded figures for the stereo system in a 1991 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite, let me know. I know they have the same sound system in other model years as well, so just gimme a holler. Send me an email (requires registering with af.com) and I will send you a copy of the schematics.
I have also figured out how to replace the stock CD deck with a new one, while still retaining the original factory radio and tape (the main head unit). I did this because the CD deck was toast, but I still wanted to keep the steering-wheel mounted controls (the volume still works for everything, but the 'track' up/dn buttons only work for am/fm radio - NOT while playing a CD). Plus, I just had an old CD deck laying around. So if you want to know how to do this, just let me know. (keep in mind that you may do so at your own risk!) Keep in mind, however, that if you want to retain the steering wheel controls, that you MUST keep the original factory head unit. These controls are digitally encoded and would need a decoder and converter to be able to control an aftermarket CD player. Last edited by 91olds98; 11-19-2005 at 06:03 PM. I installed an after market CD in my 1995 Olds 98 and lost my steering wheel controls. I'd like to receive your wiring schematic. I'm thinking the same fix should work for me. Thanks in advance.

Hello, could you forward that to me as well? Does anyone have a factory radio for sale to fit my 1993 Ninety-Eight? Thanks!

Could you please email the wiring drawing you are so kindly offering. I just bought a 91 98 and it still has the factory radio. Mine doesn't have the cd option, but I'm wondering if I can add a cd and still use the steering wheel controls.
