i've seen more realistic artist's renderings (you can actually see teh car) and I have to say if that's not ugly, Kia Optima's are better than Toyota Camry's.

I don't find the Cayenne to be very attractive...but I don't see the point in many SUVs. This model makes sense for Porsche as it will (in concept, anyway) smooth out the cyclicalness of sports car market. It'll keep Porsche independent longer.

As for the Kia/Toyota thing, I prefer the Optima to the Camry...and I've driven both. The Kia is a great car.

Regardless of what you think of the Cayenne, it's coming and the world has to be prepared for it. But let's try not to worry so much about it; it's not just another 'join-the-band-wagon' SUV simply to appeal to the sport-ute masses. Think about it, it IS Porsche we are talking about here. Press released specifications include entry level 4.2L V-8 with 337 hp, 4.2L V-8 twin turbo with 449 hp. Unconfirmed but, there may also be a high performance (as if the V-8tt wasn't high enough) V-10 engine from the Carrera GT on its way, but redone to put out more torque. Recent developments are announcing that the Cayenne will not use the VW 3.2L 240hp V-6, which will power the model clone, VW Colorado SUV.

The simple fact that Porsche is using their own performance oriented engine erases all the 'me-too'ness common in modern SUVs. Secondly, Porsche has begun to promote the "Tread-Lightly!" campaign and has deemed their upcoming SUV to be used primarily for the road; the Cayenne is designed to show Porsche's road handling prowess as well as power. And who cares if it doesn't fare well off-road? Not many people take their exotic SUVs off public roads anyway.

Below is a freshened-up spy-shot:

Thumbs down NO WAY!

When somebody hears the word Porsche they immediatly think of the hot sports cars nto a suv so I don't think this could work they are doing perfectly great on the sports cars they should have undivided attention to them instead of a crappy sport utility which they are not know for or gperfect at like they are at the sports cars.:sun: :silly2:

AN SUV it seems like the next thing that they will make is a mid price ranged family car. i mean cant a good company just stay with what they know. you dont see saturn goin out building $100,000 sports cars they stay with what they know in there case it is sucky ass cars but at least they stay there. Personaly it pisses me off that Porsche would do this

I am as anti-SUV as they get, so I guess I shouldn't even say anything about it (it's certainly not an unbiased opinion), but Porsche is the last manufacturer I want (and expect) to start building SUVs. The on-road SUV should be on its way out. There really isn't much of a use for it. If you want the extra space, you can get a wagon or a minivan that's safer, far more efficient, and costs a lot less. But SUVs are stylish. Geez, somebody stop me before I mount the soapbox!

I don't even consider vehicles such as this to be real 'SUVs'. After all, they seat only as much as a moderate sedan can, provide as much cargo space as a wagon can, and now that they have better stability on-road, they've really lost most of the 'SUV-ness' that car enthusiasts have come to hate: i.e. excessively unused cargo space, excessively usage of road space, tendency to roll-over, and too much torque/not enough horsepower. From the looks of it, the Cayenne isn't all that massive, is promised to be forgiving in turns, and has even more power than the current on-road german SUV speed king, the BMW X5 4.6is.

Weren't Porsches always considered to be usable sports vehicles, anyway?
