02 Grand Am Starting Problems
I have a 2002 Grand Am GT. 3.4 Automatic. For some reason it will not start. Everything electrical seems to work fine. When I start to turn the key over all the lights and radio work but when I turn it all the way over everything stops and it is dead silence. It doesnt even try to kick over. It has a good battery and it passed the test at Autozone for the starter. I dont know where to look next. It did this as well a couple weeks back and I had to tow it home with a tow rope and it mysteriously started perfectly once we got it back in the driveway. Any input on what could be wrong would be of great help. Thank you.

Welcome to AF !
Did you have both the battery and starter tested ? Are your connections clean and tight ?

Re: 02 Grand Am Starting Problems
Yes I had both the battery and starter tested and they both passed. They did do a test on a brand new starter when they did mine and the new starter seemed to sound more powerful. I dont know if that would make a difference or not.

Re: 02 Grand Am Starting Problems
So I have an update on my car. After doing a little bit of research I ran across someone else who had a problem just like mine. Their security system was preventing the car from starting. So all I had to do was turn the key over for minutes to reset the security system, turn the key off and now the car is starting perfectly fine again. I dont have my keyless entry anymore.
So my next question was whether there was a way to bypass the security system so that I wouldn't have to deal with this problem again. Any input would be great. Thanks |

something is not right in this puzzle, if it was the theft deterrent problem your engine would crank but you said it did not crank. Theft deterrent system disables injectors you would still be able to hear starter turning the engine. I would say something with the intermittent ignition swithc or signal from nss swithc to starter solenoid is open. Something along this lines is where you have to concentrate. |
