Re: Need help removing drive axle ASAP!!!!!!
i haven't pulled the drivers side before but i have pulled the passenger side several times. if it any thing like the passenger side i might be able to help. i don't believe there are any clips in the cup that the cv slides into that is right at the frame. it should just pull out. but first you have to remove the hub(if 4x4), then the retaining clip(c -clip) that is snapped on the end of the axle. you will have to remove the brake caliper and bracket from the spindle assembly. next you will have to remove the brake rotor/hub assembly.that will leave a bare spindle with backing plate and axle shaft. next move is to unbolt the upper ball joint and tie rod end. should be able to pull the spindle down far enough to pull out the axle shaft. the only cv joint that i have been able to replace was the inner most towards the vehicle, the one that fits into the cv cup. i've broken a few of these from rough huosing in my trooper so with somer practice i am able to now replace an entire shaft in about 45 minutes. but shouldn't take you too long.
oh and yeah to get the rotor/hub assembly off after removing your locking or automatic hub, there is a threaded ring with three screws in it. that takes the place of a retaining nut and cotter pin. take the three screws out and the keyed ring off then you can get the retaining nut off the spindle. hope this makes sence and hope i was able to help out a bit.good luck.

hmm
well i figured it out. Its a crazy setup. The drivers side does not JUST pull out for sure. I ruined a bunch of stuff. I do not recommend to a rookie! Im an ASE mastertech and this thing gave me headaches! I guess I needed a book. Most times you can just figure stuff out. There are 2 circlips that hold a bearing onto the shaft. Yet this bearing is inside a retaining plate. I took off the 4wd actuator and found that I could see a circlip. I undid it and pulled in on out ruining the seal. So if you pry you are prying this bearing against the plate and bending the plate and ruining the seal. Still am waiting for parts. But at least I got it figured out and it happened to my car and not a customers. Dont want an angry customer.
Only one way to learn. |
