Help Identifying Engine

Hi.
My brother passed away last summer. His son is 15 years old and I am the executor of the will. We are in the process of putting his house on the market and are cleaning it out. My brother has had this engine for a while,he did not much want to get rid of it, but now we must. I would like help not only identifying the engine, but placing a value on it. A friend of mine looked at it and told me what he thought, but we'd both feel more comfortable with some other opinions thrown in. My friend did look at the engine and said that something (I don't remember what) turns on it and that that's a good sign. (I guess by now you all know that I know NOTHING about these things) Can anyone help me with a general price for the engine? I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!
