Exclamation Please help. '95 Olds. Cutlass Ciera TOO MUCH PRESSURE

Car Info:
1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera v6 engine.

Please offer and help that u can. I am getting 40 PSI when I test my fuel pressure and I asked a few garages and they said it was my fuel pressure regulator.. Can anyone else tell me if that is correct or if its something else or COULD be something else. This is my problem with the car overall. If I dont start it at all for like all night and i go to start it in the morning, then it takes me a while to start it. I mean itll backfire and and make noises and attempt to start but wont for awhile. Then after awhile itll start. And itll start good for the rest of the day. See when I go to slow down or stop completely, it stalls out. If I start it and put it in drive or reverse, theres a good 90% chance itll stall right when I do it or touch the gas pedal. I have no clue what is wrong with it. Its beginning to be a pain, since i bought a book, and replaces many parts to this thing, and it still acts up. I was told either the Fuel Pump or the Fuel Pressure Regulator. As I said, the pressure test indicates im getting 40 PSI, when I was told my car is only suppose to have 16 PSI max.. Please if anyone knows what could be the problem, please let me know. I need feedback cause as of right now, I am lost.
Also my last thing, that I cant understand is, AutoZone told me there was 5 different fuel pressure requlators for my type of car, and to see which one i need, i need to find the actual fuel pressure regulator on my car, and get numbers off it. Can anyone kindly tell me where i can find this fuel pressure regulator on a 95 oldsmobile cutlass ciera?
Thanks a lot.
Jason

It depends on the engine where it is located although most are located between the fuel rails under the plenum. It sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is going bad but it should have between 45 and 50 psi pressure not 16. 16 is ok for a car with a carb. but not one that is fuel injected. You can change it yourself once you find out which regulator you need. You may also want to clean the idle air control motor located on the throttle body and the throttle body itself. This will make the idle better and the car run more smoothly.

Thank you. Also I checked under the Plenum or whatever its called between both fuel rails and it wasnt there. And thanks for telling me about the pressure, my girlfriends dad, was the one who checked that, but hes more experienced with older vehicles and not a newer one like mine. so he probably was mixed up. But just to clear things up, so with the symptoms I told you about the car, do you honestly think its the Fuel Pressure Regulator? Or if not, what else MIGHT it be. Just so u know, I changed the coils, and I also changed the fuel filter, and was GOING to change the fuel pump, till my girlfriends dad, who was checking my car out, said he heard my fuel pump working FINE, and that it cant be that. So I just want to make sure. Also if the pressure regulator isnt under the plenum, which is a pain to take off LOL, where else might it be? Please let me know and thank you so much for telling me what you knew already!

Can you tell me what size V6 you have? That will help me determine where to point you as far as the fpr. Based on my experience I truly believe you have a fuel pressure regulator problem and would spend the money diagnosing that problem before I would move to the fuel pump. The fuel pump for your car will be around $100 and you will have to drop the gas tank to get to it. It is not a simple bolt on like the older cars were.

None of the books I have show the exact location on the 3.1. Find the fuel rail, what the injectors are connected to. At the end or in the middle of the fuel rails you should see a small round can with a vacuum line attached. That is the fuel pressure regulator. On some 3.1's you must remove the throttle body to get to the FPR the fuel return line is usually connected to it. It shouldn't be too hard to find if you know what you are looking for.

Re: Please help. '95 Olds. Cutlass Ciera TOO MUCH PRESSURE

im pretty sure 40 psi is good. however your problem could be fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator/TCC/or ignition module/MAF...

badically you need to determine if its spark or fuel. I would personally rule out TCC and spark b4 checking fuel but its your car.

If you are consistenltly getting 40 psi then i feel thats adaquete pressure...check fuel pressure as its stalling see if it cuts out. If so then do fuel pump first then fp reg. If fuel pressure checks out unplug your TCC and see if it still stalls (if so plug it back in if that solves it leave unplugged until you can swap out your TCC). Next up have your ignition module tested @ autozone. if thats good unplug your MAF and see if it still stalls it may run like crap but if it doesnt stall then you know its the MAF. Ill wait and see what you say about those b4 i go into CPS...

If you need it ive got a spare 94 3100 ig module and MAF(complete with MAF sensor,IAC,TPS) i could sell you. Heck ive even got ecm/prom chip as lastly that would be your last option. let me know via email if you want these parts.
