1999 Wstar Speedometor & Odometor not working
Just bought a 99 Windstar Sport with high miles. The speedometor is not working (just sits at 0 mi) and the odometor did not show any numbers just some dashes through like this (--------). Should I try to repair it or get one from the junk yard. Oh... what is the different between one with a "Message Center" and one without. I just got this van and it did not come with the owner's manual. HELP.
P.S. : How do you take off the radio benzel ( the thing that goes around the radio/heater/ cup holder). I need to trouble the temp slider. I believe it is broke and stock on "hot". Many thanks. Last edited by kvcobra; 06-14-2005 at 05:02 PM. |

Not so sure about the speedo but i think there is a sensor on the tranny that will make it stop working. As for your blend door fix there on the bottom there are little screw taps on the bottom sides, you will have to pull the radio out. you will need a pair of coat hangers or cut one make two u and plug them in or go to advance auto and get the radio DIN tool thats what i did. My blend door motor went out paid about 56.00 I think for the new one. That may be your problem as well.
"Removing the stereo 2001 winnie" go to that thread by typing in in on topic search at the top it will give you some info about that. Hope this helps.. Gary |

Re: Speedometor & Odometor not working
I check the fuse and fuse #10 was blown. This is what is causing the cluster not to work along with other stuff. I replaced it and it stayed on for like 10 seconds after I turn the key to on/start and went out again. I put a new fuse (10a) in and it got burn out also.
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot what is short?? or should I just take it to the dealer. Thanks again... |

Re: Speedometor & Odometor not working
Fuse #10 feeds about a dozen things on the '99. Look at your owners manual and disconnect the following three things:
1. Rear window defrost relay. 2. AC clutch relay. 3. ... also disconnec the pigtail connector that goes to switch on the bottom of brake master cylinder. ... now does the fuse #10 still blow? |
