Thermostat access - 1997 Sebring 2.5L

Hi,
How do I reach the thermostat housing on my 1997 Sebring convertible with the 2.5L engine please? I would like to replace the thermostat without having to remove half of the components in the engine compartment.

Thank you

But I should have made myself a little clearer. While there are several How to video's, they don't actually show how I can remove the housing ( or at least, I don't see it ). The video will point out the housing and then, in the next scene, they opened housing appears without explaining how, without removing a bunch of parts, they are able to remove the 3 bolts holding the thermostat housing in place. It seems impossible to reach it. Maybe its just me.

Thank you for your reply

Re: Thermostat access - 1997 Sebring 2.5L

I must be stupid but why would I remove the alternator and belt located
on the passenger side of the engine compartment when the thermostat housing is located on the driver's side?

That's what I mean when I say the videos don't seem to help.
My first Gen Sebring has the 2.5L engine

Thank you

The 2.5 was less common than the 4 cylinders. Maybe if you search the engine code 6G73 then you might have more success.

You need to verify you got all the air out of the system. Air will cause an overheat. You also need to verify your radiator cap is working properly. If it doesn't hold the proper pressure it will also cause an overheat condition.

Re: Thermostat access - 1997 Sebring 2.5L

Afternoon everyone.

Its been in the high 30s and low 40s everyday for the past couple of weeks here in Kamloops, British Columbia so I have been riding my 25 year old Kawa Drifter to work everyday instead of taking a chance of my car overheating.

Mine is a 1997 Sebring convertible with the 2.5L engine.
I replaced the thermostat and the radiator cap, flushed the radiator using a chemical descaler and filled my radiator with fresh coolant.

Car still overheats. I noticed that when it overheats that the coolant leaks out of the overflow tank, that the coolant is rusty looking and that the coolant does not appear to flow from the overflow tank to the radiator.

When it idles it takes about 15 minutes to overheat but when I was flushing out my radiator, that my car did not overheat.

What am I missing, please?

Thank you for any advice.

What is the best way to let the air out of the system, please?
And thank you for your previous suggestions.
