rear breaks

have a 05 limited awd the rear pads need replaced. is this a do it yourself job if i get the special tool needed? ford wants to much and the tool is twenty bucks. this cars eats the pads because of the design flaw.???????????????

I changed the read pads on my 05. Don't remember needing a special tool. Good luck.

Some newer Fords need a left hand tool. My OTC I can just reverse my ratchet. I've noticed them slightly cheaper on http://www.ebay.com/

the rght rear caliper is reverse threaded. left to tight (or compress) the piston. the cars for certain model years had extended brake coverage because the rear pads got wet at an assembly plant. the coverage is only good for a certain year, and upto 36k. instead of the normal 12k for brakes. but yes, in general, those tiny pads tend to wear fast, and the rotors don't have much room to machine.
