2003 Chev Tracker 4 cyl EGR 110k

My friend has a 03 Tracker with an EGR code. He needs to have the emissions testing done soon. He moved about 4 hours away from me and I have never seen this truck. It is a 2.0 liter 4 and he said the guy at autozone showed him the EGR valve and it looks easy to get too. He knows NOTHING about working on cars so he wants to drive this thing down on Saturday for me to fix it. I just wondered what is involved. It looks like it is electronic from what I'm reading. I have found some threads on the older Trackers that say there is a tube that needs cleaned out. Is this the case on this engine also? Any tips or anything that anyone can give me about this. He will not be able to stay too long and have leave with it when I'm done. I just don't want any problems. I would think an egr valve repacement would be very easy.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Rob

Did you get your problem fixed? I simply cleaned my EGR tube and saved the expense of a new valve. Took about an hour, not too difficult.
