Welcome to AF.

if the 80SE is similar to other B4/B5 platforms, the pump is in the tank.
on the 90 models (maybe 80's too), to easily access this, pull the trunk carpeting up; and near the rear passenger side fold down seat, forward of the spare tire well, is an access plate with three retaining screws...
below this plate is the carrier assembly, lid, electricals, and lines for the fuel pump. on the 90 models, it is very similar to a large screw on type lid (like for instance on peanut butter or jelly jars) that may need a little rap/tap from a hammer and screwdriver on the lip to break it free.

---MANY (if not all now) manufacturers will stipulate that the installation of a new fuel pump requires a fuel pump strainer or sock, and/or a new fuel filter for a warranty to be valid. a strainer (if applicable) is $6-10 USDollars, and a filter is $25 or less. these purchases are cheap insurance for a $100+ dollar fuel pump; and while you are here, it would be wise to change either or both.

hope this helps,
chris
