Advice with buying a Bronco II xl
I want to buy a Bronco II XL. Its Standard 5 speed, manual transfer case, power locks and windows and seats, It has 140,000 KMs, there is a dent in the drivers side door from when she closed it with her bum, and it needs a complete exhaust replacement… muffler, and pipes but not the header. There is some body rust, but not a lot, there is a long crack in the main window, a few inches from the bottom, and there looks to be oil leaking from the tranny, transfer case, and engine, although not bad, and have not seen any drips…
It was lady driven by one owner an older lady, who took an easy on it, basically never used it as a 4x4 The sale tag is 5995 CAD but they will take of 1200, so I can pick it up for 4800 CAD. Is this a rip off? Or is this what the bronco IIs are worth? Thanks for the advice. |

Re: Advice with buying a Bronco II xl
I'd take it if you are in the market for a BII, and won't choke on that price.(1200 / 4800) The worst thing you've listed could be a porous tranny/transfer case. In which case, you just check your fluid level more often. (Of Course, in that case, what you're looking at wouldn't be 'oil' per se...it would be gear oil.) Most likely, she has a leaking valve cover gasket, and it's running down the engine, over the tranny, and onto the transfer case when driven.
Figure about $100 or so for the exhaust depending on how you want it fixed. Better-than-stock could run $300 or more, 'rig-it-up' could be a $50 charge. What you'll get out of the truck will be worth way more than that. I bought my BII for about $700 (It was power nothing and missing 4th gear.), did the valve cover gasket, checked the fluid level, drove it for a year. I had a whale of a time driving it that year, and didn't mind taking a loss when I sold it. EDIT-Broncos hold some value because they are 4x4. Check your local paper, and you'll see 4x4s listing a few hundred over 2x4s. (Unless the 2-by is in really good condition.) Last edited by Truck; 01-20-2006 at 07:24 PM. |
