"Right to Repair"
What do the techs out there think of this?
The Right to Repair Act is bipartisan legislation that would require automakers to provide the same service information and tools to independent auto and maintenance shops, as well as to consumers, that the automaker dealership service centers receive. |

I think it's a can of worms......first the auto industry, then what's next?
You can make it available......but it's not going to be free.......it's not free to dealership, it part of their operating cost of being a dealership..... So, "consumers", can get this info......do you mean consumers who would now get info to overcome security systems in cars? |

I think it's awful in many ways. They should keep their noses out of the auto business altogether. He promised "change" and it's here.

So long as the shops have to purchase the equipment and its not some kind of freebie. No offense to anyone, but Lots of dealerships overcharge like crazy, and worse are very dishonest. Thats just my experience.
I wouldnt mind having the choice of going to a mom and pop, or independent shop so long as they were informed of what they were doing, and had the right tools to do it. These cars are getting more sophisticated. It only seems right that we, the consumer, arent forced into going to the dealership, then be overcharged. |

Seems to me like "The Right To Repair Act" would really hurt the dealerships and put even more people out of work. The govt. needs to be concerned with creating more jobs instead of hurting those already working. Dealerships with their factory trained techs are a viable alternative to the independent shops.

It's all available sooner or later. If you don't mind waiting a coupla years or so and you can afford the equipment. The dealers don't get this for free. I'd like to see some of it released a little sooner. As well as aftermarket licensing on parts. Then those guys gotta see whats worth their while making.
