Subaru WRC paint help
Can anyone here help me with the correct shade of paint used by Subaru on their Impreza's during the 1993-1996 WRC seasons? I know that it is a dark blue, but I'm not sure whether it is a metallic shade or not.
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for that Alex. Now I have to find an appropriate blue. I may just use the same for all three years if they do not differ too much.

If you are using Tamiya paints just use Mica Blue, otherwise theres is a complicated mix of at least three colors (6 with Humbrols) to create the correct color.

Quote:
Subaru only began using mica blue in 1997 and prior to that they used a non-metallic deep blue gloss for the cars. |

No, it isn't Mica blue. Mica blue is for 97 year and latter. Alex pointed it to right thread about color.

I have a bottle of Modellers Blue (primary), that looks about the right colour to me. Should be meduim to dark solid blue with just a hint of purple.
Hasegawa suggest a mix of Gunze Sangyo (GSI Creos) Mr Color paints on their instructions: 35% cobolt blue, 35% bright blue and 30% clear red. As everybody has said time and time again the Group A Impreza blue was not metallic. The colour only changed to metallic with the introduction of the WRC in 1997. But judging by the wording of exhaust smoke's original post I suspect he already knows that. |

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I read in Hasegawa's instructions concerning the use of Cobalt Blue in the mix. That got me confused as to whether it was a metallic shade or not. Rally Raider's assumption was correct, as Tamiya has done the hard work for us by producing a colour for their first Scooby WRC kit.
I was thinking about giving Prodrive a call on the off chance that they could help me/provide with with some colour samples of the correct colours used. Otherwise it will have to be the closest dark purply-blue that I can find in the shops. |

Just called Prodrive. Very helpful actually. They said they would not be able to give me the exact colour (as it was custom to them), but they would be able to provide a closest match. Let's see if they will ring me back...

Nice to see that a company like Prodrive can take the time to help out a 'fan'. While you were on the line did ask if Colin was joining them next year?
