1994 Bravada Code 42 Ignition Control Error
I have put a new ignition module in, checked all wiring including distributor cap and wires. My question is, since on this model it doesn't show a crankshaft sensor code, can it cause a code 42 ignition control error. It starts immediately, but hunts for idle, then evens out. but it is hard to drive, doesn't want to shift right, and just plains idles rough. I just got finished with the brakes, and transmission. then it just started this. I am wondering if the distributor is going bad as this is the 3rd ignition module put in. anyone have ideas it would be appreciated.

Re: 1994 Bravada Code 42 Ignition Control Error
Basic HEI ignition with no crank sensor.....
could have more than one problem, an EST problem and HEI output problem Did you apply heat sink grease to the back of the ICM? Use OEM ICM? Connections at pickup coil ok? As Max stated, that article wants you to be aware that ANYTHING in the circuit, that can cause the 42 code...... ICM, PCM, and wiring and connections in between them.... I don't know anyone who can inspect cap, rotor, and ignition wires and detect carbon tracking, cracks, etc. Did you check spark output at the end of each ignition wire with a spark tester? Check compression? Does this have throttle body injection? If it idles badly, spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body to see if the idle gets better......also spray the base of the throttle body, to check for vac leaks... |
