4 Rears in 3 Years! What can I do?
This will be the fourth time now in just over 3 years that the rear on my 00 Trans AM will need servicing. The pinion seals keep breaking and it drains and the car sounds like a plane driving around. It is actually "chugging" this time around so I can imagine the damage done to the internals. I am getting fed up with it. The car is out of warranty but since there is a history of this problem for this car, can anything be done without having to pay for it to be "fixed" again? The car has been babied its whole life and just turned 40k. What are my options? I checked the link in one of the other posts but Pennsylvania is not included. Any advice? Thanks for your time.

You will really have to yell and scream and threaten legal action in small claims court (or go ahead and sue for the cost of repairs) but you have a case....if the dealer fixed it under warranty and its obviously not fixed than they are responsible for a permanent repair....not just another seal, but a new pinion shaft or housing....whatever is required.

Ok, heres an update. I called a Lemon Law firm before I took the car in for repairs to see what my options were. Even though the car was no longer under warranty, because the first incident occurred before 12K miles, and has happened 3 times under warranty, I am covered under lemon law. GM is really screwing themselves on this one. They ordered the dealer to not repair my car, after they had already purchased $1700 worth of parts to fix it. My car sat at the dealer for 3 weeks before GM decided to let them. It took another week before the car was done. That final week I requested a rental, which I got and was told it would be paid for but I just got a $350 bill for it a few days ago, almost 3 weeks after I returned it. Pontiac will not pay for it even though they caused the hold up at the dealership. GM is just digging a bigger hole for themselves. Its a shame because I am a very loyal GM buyer but this experience was such an inconvenience to me. The lawyer said basically my case is so strong, I have already won, its just a matter of waiting for the court date which can take up to nine months.

Re: 4 Rears in 3 Years! What can I do?
HAHA, Yes they are. Even that has to bring me grief. Some idiot took my pic and put it on his website. He is using my car to sell his "kits" for Lambo doors. Not only does neither he or his company have anything to do with it, but he put his logo across the pic so it couldn't be taken from him. www.lambodoors.com/firebird.htm
Man I am still pissed lol

Re: 4 Rears in 3 Years! What can I do?
Is there anywhere on the Web that a person can go for car problem diagnosis? My car has not started for over a month because it is Winter & it seems to only want to start when the temp. is over 60. Don't tell to wait till Spring either.

Oh boy, this whole ordeal just keeps getting better and better! Now I'm getting sued! LOL I don't want to go into details just yet but man, this better be worth all this aggravation. My court date is in a few months so keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll update everyone at a later date

Nice story. You've got them by the short hairs, and they sue you.
Well done, by the way. Sounds like they should have replaced the entire rear end, after the 2nd time you had it in under warranty....
