Replacing the Oil Pan

I know this may sound crazy but my oil pan is rusting out and now its leaking. I have no oil all around the seal so its not coming from above. The paint is all gone on the lower half of the pan. My question is; Can I pull the pan (for replacing) without having to lift the motor? If you think you know, have you done this? I have to Remove the starter, and that's no problem. It's a 94, 3.0 L, 2 wheel drive.

I dont' think your crazy, my 93 aerostar 3.0L appears to be rusted on the front of the pan and leaking from the rust area. It's actually become a fairly major leak. I do not know how big a job it is to remove the pan and am thinking of maybe sanding it and patching with some "liquid steel" type sealant. If anyone knows about this tendancy to rust and leak or knows how big a job it is to remove and replace the pan I'd sure like some tips. Thanks

Re: Replacing the Oil Pan

I was wondering how hard it was to drop the pan as well, I have a 1994 all wheel drive model with the aluminum pan that I need to put rod & main bearings in and it looks like I could place a jack under the rear A frames and unbolt the cross member to take down the pan but I figured I would check here before I ate a spring
