Camry gas tank filling problems
Filling my1998 Camry Le is a nightmare, I cannot pump more than 2 gallons of gas into my tank before the pump clicks off. When I try to force more gas into the tank, gas bubbles out (similar to what happens when the tank is full). This happens even when I have less than a quarter tank left. I've tried everything...pushing the pump in as far as it can go, pumping gas slowly. Any ideas on what is wrong with fueling my Camry?
Thanks for your help. |

gas tank - toyota
I am having the SAME problem with my 2001 Sienna. My mechanic thought maybe something was stuck in one of the hoses, but he took out all of the hoses and tank and couldn't find anything. He says the valve inside the tank could be a problem & that I need a new tank. He consider's it a manufacturer's defect, and told me to talk to Toyota. I'm in the procees now, although my local dealership was NOT helpful since although it's less than 36 months old, I have more than 36,000 miles. (stupid, considering my car is coming off lease in less than 6 months & I'll need to get a new one! Definitely not from them!)

Re: Camry gas tank filling problems
I know that it's been over three years since the previous posts on this thread, but my 1999 Camry LE has exactly the same problem now. I took it in to the dealer's service and they said that the overflow valve was malfunctioning and that "the system thinks that the car has rolled over and doesn't want any gas being filled in". But the guy didn't seem to be too confident in telling me this.
My question -- has anyone managed to get this problem fixed successfully? It takes me an excrutiating 10 mins to fill the tank and I'm not looking forward to doing that in the upcoming winter... I can't fill more than 0.3-0.5 gallons in one shot! Thanks in advance for any advice! |

i notice that that happens to me sometimes when the tanks is pressurized, but it usually fixes itself after a while.

Re: Camry gas tank filling problems
Make sure the vent lines are not obstructed.
You may have better luck on getting a response in the Camry sub-forum. |

Re: Camry gas tank filling problems
It's probably the vent line as Kim said.
Moved to Camry forum.
