high pitched squeaking on right front tire

i proudly own a 1986 4runner and i loved it ever since i got it. but i noticed on the way to a buddies house, a really high pitched squeeking noise...almost like a mouse. i just set it aside and turned up the radio. well this morning it was really getting worse. it was more audible and im sure others can hear it in the parking lot of my school. can someone please tell me what it is or what you think it is?

also, i ahev another problem (trying to kill two birds with one stone here) i went to start the truck the other morning and its getting really really cold, about freezing point and when i started it up, the engine was idling at about 500rpm and there was a really loud noise under the hood, it sounded exactly like a vacuum cleaner. i quickly turned it off, hopeing the started didnt stick or something, but the engine stopped and the vacuume cleaner noise stayed for about 4 or 5 seconds. i waited a few minutes and tried again and started right up and idled correctly. got to school, turned it off and started it back up and started correctly. went out there in the afternoon and it did it very shortly and just idled right. it still does it just barely every morning i start it. please please please help me here!
thanks
jesse

For the 1st noise, check your brake linings in front. It is probably your wear indicator that is making that noise - indicating it is time to change your brake pads.

The second noise may be your fan. The fluid coupling takes a little time to get the fluid circulated and in the correct location after sitting for a long time.

it had new breaks on it, just a few months old. and it does it with or without the break being depressed. so its like something sounds really really loose. but could it still be the breaks even though im not pressing them.

Re: high pitched squeaking on right front tire

Is it possible only the rear brake linings were changed?

Re: high pitched squeaking on right front tire

i dont know, my uncle is the one who sold it to me, and he changed and checked everything before i baught it. then i took a look at them and they were fine. then when i had some bigger tires put on it, and when they rotated them they chacked both times and they were fine. so.. do you think i could of hit something hard enough like a speed bump and it would of done that?

do you think it could possibly be the auto locking hubs for the front not disengaging when i take it out of 4wheel drive? and ill check the breaks this weekend to make sure the breaks are all good.

Unless I'm mistaken, the autolocking mechanism for the front wheels is in the front differential. The hubs themselves are always splined to the halfshafts.

Re: high pitched squeaking on right front tire

well, this sounds is getting even more annoying because it is getting lounder and louder. i did a small expereiment with a buddy and we put it in 4wheel drive and drove it a little bit and no squeeking, i backed up about 15 feet and let them disengage and put it back in 2 wheel drive and it had no sqeeking. i started to get oil this morning and it was very very loud, then stopped when i hit the expressway. This is confusing me.

Re: high pitched squeaking on right front tire

Sometimes brake linings will squeek intermittently just because of their composition. It may be worth your while to change the brake linings to OEM linings.

Re: high pitched squeaking on right front tire

Had semimetallic pads on mine and had some squealing and massive break dust on the front rims - switched out to stock pads (ceramic) and have had no squeeks and no break dust. As to the wheel bearing theory - not to sure about that but don't discount it either. In my experience bearings usually begin with a low frequency humming noise that gets progressively louder as the bearing(s) get worse. Let us know what you find out.
