PSA/Mitsubishi SUV
At last Peugeot and Citroen are getting an SUV. Always a black spot of both manufacturers line-ups and whats moe they are doing it with the best in the buisness. The PSA has signed a deal with 4X4 expert Mitsubishi. Although names of the vehicles have'nt been comfirmed or any technical information, they will probably be powered with a range of PSA petrol engines and diesel engines. Mitsubishi will also build its version and will replace the odd-ball Shogun Pinin. Joint ventures are'nt a new thing for the French maker, recently their new range of Microcars built in conjuction with Toyota were revealed. The 4X4 will be a mid-sized lifestyle SUV which is designed to appeal to image conscious urban drivers. The styling is still a mystery but expect the Citroen version to draw looks from the C-Crosser concept and the Peugeout play on the 'gaping-mouth' look, the Mitsubishi will look the more conventional of the trio. The car will more importantly go head-to-head with the Nissan X-Trail and the mk2 Land Rover Freelander. The Mitsubishi version will be unveiled at this years Tokyo motorshow and won't arrive untill 2007 but the Citroen and Peugeot variants should be unveiled at next years Frankfurt motorshow and be released in late-2006. As for innovation the new range of SUV's will feature a monocoque body, a first for a Mitsubishi 4X4 and a high-tech full-time four-wheel-drive system mated to a low-ration transfer box. It is not yet know where the trio will be constructed it they will be together or if it is merely the development costs and design being shared.
The new Mitsubishi will provide basis for French 4X4s.
