Re: REQ: 99 JX Convertible Blower Motor Resistor number.
I have a 99 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JX.
I am calling around today to get the part number needed for the issue of no heat / ac on 1,2,3 speeds, 4 works fine. Will part #5174124AA work for this car. This crosses with advanced auto part number RU10 or something which is 28.99, It doesnt say it fits the 99. When crossing on ebay it says this is for a 2001-2004 model? Do i need the coil type for 14.99 or the blob type for 28.99 will the dealer not recommend the blob because its wasnt originally for our cars. I am confused. My wife just want to not melt on HI but she would like a lil heat here and there. Please Help. If someone can tell me exactly what part to get via advance, napa, chrysler or dodge that would be great. I read this thread and it wasnt really definable to me for the 99 JX convertible. I suppose it hasnt gone out in 10 years, so either way i just want to fix, but if 10 more i will get the better of the two. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
The information was great and super valuable. THANK YOU!!!
My 10 year old son had to help me as I am also 6'2" but we got it done! The resistor for a 2000 is different from the one in the pictures and it cost only $15 but the instructions to remove it apply. Thanks again! Guillermo. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I hope this helps.
I have a 2000, I went to Advance Autoparts and they gave me the correct part. It cost $15, the brand name is BWD and the code is RU897 I would not use eBay for this, you will need to pay shipping plus you won't be able to return it if it is not the correct part. Plus they gave me a 1 year warranty if i keep my receipt. G |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
Thank you so much PashaDNN .
I saved $180 because of you, yes it was the price the dealership asked me to change my resistor. The position 1 2 & 3 of my heat did'nt worked in my Chrysler Sebring LX 2002 V6 2.7 l imported from Canada Some precisions with new pictures: I spend 2 hours and a half to fix the problem 1°) To avoid Airbag deployment issue, I decided to turn off the battery (thanks Richarde for the tips). I spent one hour and a half just to do that !!!! The negative and positive wire (close to the fuse box, below the hood) were blocked. So I tried to reach directly he battery close to the left wheel, but it was worst, I was too scared to break some plastic screws. Don't waste your time to do that. Then I abonded and put some anti-rust product on the sockets, close to the fuse and relay center, but BE CAREFUL, this product is really dangerous with any electricity source, particularly the can , so i put it first on towel paper, then on the socket (15mm by the way). 2°) The new part, updated #5174124AA is taller than the old one and it was really difficult or too long to cut the slot to adapt it. So I decided to burn it, maximum 3 seconds, step by step... using a screw driver to molt the burning plastic. BE CAREFULL AGAIN, all is in plastic there... The 2 bolts are 8mm, thank you happyfamilyman, i saved my back thanks to this tip... http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tools.jpg PashaDNN's Pictures http://img7.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img7&image=IMG_6114.jpg http://img7.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img7&image=IMG_6116.jpg http://img45.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img45&image=IMG_6124.jpg |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
With the help of the people who had posted before me, I diagnosed the problem on Sunday, ordered the part (from Rock Auto) on Monday, got the part on Thursday and installed it Thursday Night.
I have a 2006 Sebring Convertible - and thank goodness I had a convertible. I was able to put the passenger seat back, lay upside down into the area where the passenger puts their feet and do the work. The "foam" was held in place by a 5/8" nut, which took only minimal torque to remove (I just used the socket and twisted it by hand). It was a little tough getting the foam out, but once I did - the resistor assembly was clearly visible and both screws were easy to get to. Start to finish it took me about 25 minutes - and most of that was straightening out my back. Again - thanks for the advice! |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I would of had to get the dealership to replace the resistor for me if it wasn't for the step-by-step tutorial. The part cost me $ 49.00 CND. My resistor for my 2000 Sebring JXI looks a little different than the pictures you have. Again Thanks

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I just replaced the Blower Motor Resistor on my 2003 Sebring Convertible.
Used all the info I garnered from this post...thanks to all who shared. One difference was my not having a file or exacto knife to widen the slot where the original credit card-like resistor resided. I reoriented the resistor attaching tabs and connected the back tab to the front most screw hole. It now is securely attached(and working well), however it is hanging out in space between the cluster of wires and connectors (not touching anything) and the carpeting behind the front firewall. I'm hoping that the original placement was over-engineered and that I'm not in jeopardy of blowing up while crusing with the heat or air con blowing full force. Any Thoughts... Thanks...Tom C |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
so the resistor is not in the housing???? if it is not bad idea it will overheat and burn out again...the trick is to take a old steak knife heat it up with a lighter and trim the hole...

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I had a problem with the fan speed and initially I thought the problem was with the climate controller. After finding this forum I realized the problem was with the blower motor resistor pack so I purchased one for $54 usd. It took me 30 minutes or so to complete the project. Access can be difficult because of the location but have ready a few tools. Have pics of everything and thanks for the info. It really was useful and an easy task. Modification of the location will be required because the newer resistor pack is thicker but it's thin plastic and can be cur back with some nips. Good luck. I'de attach pics but 100K is small.

The part I rigged outside the housing burned out in about 20 minutes on the Garden State Parkway...Thanks for setting me straight. Tom C. |

Re: Blower Motor Resistor Replacement (with pics)
I found this site last week when I experienced the same problem. $45 and forty-five minutes later, I have a four-speed fan.
Thanks to everyone ahead of me for posting their experiences. They were most helpful. |
