Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
Looking very good now; the primer really brought it together. What are you plans for the glass areas?

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
The windows should be done vacuum formed. The master piece will be milled and should be finished next week.
I will make two master forms. One for the front and side window and one for the front lamps. |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
Casting is coming closer now.
The under tray for the casting mold. Some small parts for the wheel house. Thats how it looks with the Porsche. The outer mold is ready for casting. Overview. My sprue for the silicon. Mold for the vacuum formed windows. and for the front spotlights. My silicon stock right now. I hope to cast this week the mold, but need some sanding on the Porsche first. regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
After a week holiday in beautiful Austria i went straight back to the casting of the porsche.
The master is ready for casting. First step was to use a pencil and put some silicon in the holes and on the whole surface. So there should no bubbles on the outside anymore. After this i put the foam a bit on an angle to provide it for bubbles. At the end i put it horizontally and fill it up with silicon. The most difficult part are the wheel house.I will see tomorrow if there bubbles or not. regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
Thanks Paolo! Here it is.The green Hulk. removing the cover..... site panels removed.... and now the silicon mold ready to show. A look into the mold. Looks good so far.No bubbles or stuff like that.I am happy with the result. The frame is now screwed together and the silicon can be put in it again.I used some 0,4mm spacer at the sides to get some more shaping air for casting. Next part will be this.Wax sheets in different thickness to get the wished wall thickness. regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
small update.
started with the first layer of 2mm wax sheet.Still lots of parts have to be made. After this i apply a 1mm wax sheet and fill the gaps with plastilin. Should work well at the end. regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
The inner part is ready for the next step. I got 3,5mm layer of wax sheet now.On the edges its a bit more for stability. These ureol sheets are for the inner core where i use fast resin to cast it. regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
Last update for today.
Done more than i thought today. So the inner core was casted. The core is not done with machine,i was faster than i expected and so i made it with a saw and my hands. Its not a beauty, but it works. Tomorrow i will set some locating pins to hold the core on the right place. And some screws to secure the core with the two retaining strips. I choose a hard resin for the core because i can always sand it or use putty when the core is too thin or too thick. regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
Cant wait to get to the next step.
Step by step to unpack the core from the wax sheets. The first thicker layers are easy to remove. But the last thinner one sticks together with the resin.Hard to clean it up. But at the end i got it ready to cast the first Porsche. Now i have to wait until tomorrow morning. Hope everything worked well. Crossing fingers! regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project
And this morning i unpacked the Porsche.
This is the inner core made of resin. It looks very rough, but i wanted to test it first before i made a smoother surface. Looks very good,i think.Every detail is casted well and the surface is smooth.Perfect! A look under the body shows the rough surface from the inner core.I will change this next week when i am back at work with putty and sanding. Here you can also see the air bubbles under the naca ducts.I hope with a different way of fill in the resin i can minimize them. A test fit of the rear 3 parts wing looks also good in my eyes. So the body work is done so far.Next will be the tire/rim combi and i had to thought about how to make the chassis. regards Christian |
