Re: ZX2 Performance?
This isnt a new car to the modification scene , Ive seen almost everything done to these cars and I think the amount of performance stuff they got is definately comparable to civics and other cars that have a long list of parts available forem. I find the cars factory setup to be sluggish all through the power band and not really anything to brag about however the early non restricted models had no limiter on top speed which IS something to brag about. With a performance chip itself and no top speed limiter the car has some impressive capabilities, do this before intake/exhaust work cus its a bigger bang for your buck and will give you an idea of a real performance change that you will really notice. If you go with k&n clean the mas coils regularily so you dont run lean/rich and lose hp instead of gaining it. Also k&n oil can burn out mas and make the check engine light come on. If you change your exhaust youll most likely go catback however new hiflow headers should be fitted with greater diameter pipe and removal of the cat and an exhaust system that will provide enough back pressure and freeflow as possible, most header kits will have a exhaust kit to fit directly or a new cat and cat back system that is proven to work best with the headers. Biggie to remember O2 SIMULATOR , if you do a cheap job and remove the cat all together on stock pipe or even encounter a thrown emissions code with the factory cats on with headers use a O2 Simulator desighned for your engine specifically and youll never throw codes again if you cant reflash the computer and the light stays on it will take time for it to reset itself and eventually the light goes away when the car gets enough positive signals and stays out unless you have some other engine problem like its sposed to.

Re: ZX2 Performance?
You say the cars are 130 Horses, but isn't that the Fed Spec??? How much are they to the wheels, I'd guess about 103 whp... i'm not bashin your cars, my buddie's got one, pretty quick if he runs a high octane gas, And i guess the car is different in many categories from the range of owner, cuz we race in our slightly tweaked N/A 2003 Eclipse GS and waste it every time, The ZX2 is chipped, intake and exhaust and was designed more-so to be non aspirated than the Eclipse... Mitsu Gyped the hell out of us with that one... It's also auto and i'm sure the 5 spd rips up a hell of a lot more pavement than what he's got...

Re: ZX2 Performance?
Automatic ZX2 with Borla Exhaust and stock intake makes 87.5WHP and 98.5 torque at the wheels. That was a dyno pull of my old 2000 ZX2 in Houston TX at UTI. After I installed the intake I made it to 90.5 WHP and 99.5ft/lbs of torque. Still not wopping numbers but better than the CRX, Civics, and the 4 cylinder accord at the wheels in matters of torque. But the Zetec engine is a low reving engine in the 4 cylinder crowd. I loved it to death great milage after my minor mods, cant really beat 37mpg on the highway with only 700 dollars into it. Now all I have to do is get my Z32 300ZX up to 30mpg on the interstate...... thats going to be hard. lol. I sold my Escort becuase I got tired of FFs, Front engine, front wheel drive. It was the best little car I have ever owned, and the only car I have owned with less than 6 cylinders, and the smallest engine and overall weight, wheels, wheel base, and trunk space..... but it was fun for a while, I guess if you begin on rear wheel drive cars you cant get that out of your system, I know I couldnt. Somtimes you just need to make a 3 point turn into a single powerslide bootlegger. Cant beat the feel of the rear end of the car coming around to make a turn sharper. You can take the drifting away from the drifter but you cant take the drifter away from drifting.
Drifting since '95, Retired from the "sport" in 2001. Now I road race on closed courses, love the grip now, still need to power over and let the rear end hang out for show on occasions. |
