Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I totally wont have money for the supercharger this summer... I was thinking about buying universal parts and having the guy in town assemble it for me, but I doubt I'll save much money in the long run. However, I do want to get a supercharger and have it boost over 10 psi if I decide on forged pistons...

btw... I wont be able to get the forged pistons until after my engine is rebuilt, correct? I mean assuming I got stage 2 stuff and then had the engine rebuilt with the new parts replacing it... I'd need to get measurements of the pistons before I had some custom made for me, wouldn't I?

The problem is I probably can't go more than one week without my car lol, and the guy said he could have my engine rebuilt within a week. So that's what I was planning on. But if there's no way to get the piston measurements beforehand, I might just have to get them later when I become serious about the supercharger and extreme boost.

The proper way is to measure the hight diff between the old Rocker arms and new RR's,
then figure out how much needs removed on the VC's.

Not sure about the bottom end as I havnt looked to hard for those parts yet. Going to be expensive no doubt about that.

And one very important thing I forgot, the timing chain and gears.
Those need replaced too, best to do that when the cam is put in
The stock ones are L-cheap-o.

That tapping if it only does it when the engine is cold isnt a big deal. Though the lifters are probly covered with varnish.
I took the GT ones apart and cleaned them, what a mess, it helped for a few thoughsand miles but it always comes back. Preveous owner(s) didnt change the oil as often as it should have been.
As the GT was a "fleet" vehicle
The SE I replaced the lifters when I did the last LIM and head work and they are always silent now .

Vipey, thats almost against the law
Yeah we'd be loud as hell and people would go "LOL" until they saw us destroy everyone Then they'd be like

Uh huh.... Rrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhhhhttttttt tt . J/k I agree, too have wishful dreams of seeing a hooked up g/a in a movie out running other cars and cop Amazingly the car survives all those crashes!!

I think the only way you'll even see that in a movie is by making your own movie....

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Vipey You dont have to use anything realy special for the stage 2-3 kits. Just the timing gear & chain.

And you probly can run 8-10PSI on stock internals.
Though replacing the internals just makes it more reliable and less likly to break a rod or piston. They usually take a short cut through the block

Did it get cold yesterday where everyones at ?
Monday it was close to 80.
Tuesday it wasnt bad during the day, 70s.
Then last night it droped to 40's,

............ and this morning it is SNOWING

Also Vipey you talked about the 36 lbs injectors....
That would be overkill!
Unless you are running Mega HP with 15+ psi of boost.

yea im just planning ahead for a strong stgII setup... I think what im goin to do is mix and match... use S&S headers, get port job to match everything, and build internals...

I found a place locally, less than 15mins from my house that might be able to port.. they have a good rep from what ive heard, and do vipers so im sure they know what they're doing

www.portpros.com

ill try and get the flow#s from MMS on their stageII hopefully milled to 0.020 or w/e, and ill probly just purchase only a few items from MMS, like new ported intakes for $300 and matched TB at 62mm... as well gasket kits for planning ahead... prob supercharged stgII cam and w/e else I might decide on... just piecing it all together is what gives you a headache

I just want it done lol for less thatn $3k on MMS, and RSM S/C prob in june... and later this year, water/meth kit , keep those aluminum heads coooool, ill prob look around for that trans cooler XI, here in the next few weeks... it'll run off the line that is currently looped around from the HC lol... I dont mind not having a heater

back to work

Yeah the 36lb injectors come with the stage 2 package, so I'd prolly just get them to make it easier than trying to call them and special order stuff or whatever

But hey I ALMOST enjoyed the 30 degree weather this morning (ALMOST)... being as it was high 70's yesterday and 30 this morning, I could really get to test the difference cold air makes on my engine

WOOOO rocks

So I guess I get to sit around and decide if I want supercharger or engine parts. Probably engine parts for reliability

The trans cooler doesnt hook to the coolant lines.
It hooks up to the trans lines up front between the radiator and trans.

I didnt see where the Stage II came with those 36# injectors....... They might not be to bad then if they come with his kit.

Ya almost 80 yesterday and 30's today
Though it is fun with a CAI on these brisk mornings

I went down to Turkey Run state park yesterday/lastnight.
My kids have spring break this week, never fails to rain or be freezing out
They were going to camp out but resorted to the cabins since it was storming and cold
Didnt even get on any trails........

I've been by Turkey Run before... looks neat! One place you'd LOVE to go if you like geology or earth sciences is Shades of Death state park... 300million yr old + rock structures, and you're walking on fossilized critters that existed back when Indiana was under the ocean and 20 degrees SOUTH of the equator... it's an awesome place, especially if you go there and have some sort of a guide

Hellz yeah my CAI roxxored today. And my muffler seemed louder, so of course I just HAD to rev @ civics

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

would it be possible to run it though from that heatercore line or is the trans cooler bolted up a certain way? Like mounted towards the front or something...

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Shades of Death state park, been thier more times then I could count.
My wifes family always has thier get togethers there,
so we frequent Shades throough out the summer.

I have even landed on thier air strip, very short strip

The last time I was in Shades we saw this deer running close to this rock ledge,
and it just flew off the edge and fell about 100 ft down,
and about 25ft from us walking on the trail.
That was kida wierd & scarry,
and what a mess it made on the trail

On a lighter note, I cant believe its april and its snowing

back to work I must go!

Well it has to hook up to the trans line,
and the easiest place is the front.

Most of them come with some ties to fasten it to the car.
The best place is in front of the radiator.

Exhaust tips!
They are pricey!!

I found some nice ones(a pair) on ebay for $99
Havent seen any others that cheap, at least not for stainless steel.

My SE has dual tips I threw together.
You can kinda see them in this pic from Turkey Run the other night,
the GT has singles'

And here are some of the cool decals I'm getting:
