Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

my new aeroforce tech gauge is so neato =) i did a bs 1/4 mile run onto the highway and it came up like 15.4... it was not a great run tho lol... I still have to put on my throttle body =)

I had a code in there when I scanned it w/ the gauge...

P0172........ System Adaptive fuel too rich
P0172 - Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1

dont know... lol care to explain? All I know, something is rich in fuel

and I never knew how much heat is given off on the headers under the IAT... when I drive its about 70Fish or little more... if I turn off the car and come back its up to 100F+ lol... maybe this heat shield thing it came with might help...

its the same one that was on pfyc.com.... its tiny!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

The snow/Sleet sucked ass this weekend. It was heavy as hell to shovel. After my post the other day, I shoveled most of my house. Leaving my brothers car, and both of my parents cars burried. I soon thereafter went to my girls house since she wasn't feeling well to help her shovel her house out. By saturday night, i was having severe back spasms, my knees were soo sore... my girl kept lauging at me calling me an old man! then on sunday I had to dig out my mom's truck just so my nasty neighbors don't call the policia for not moving the car. thank god for AWD, just drove right over it and back!!! I think I'm gonna go get myself one of those back brace things to help lift heavy items so i don't kill my back anymore. I soo wish i stole... I mean took mine from one of my past jobs...

Hey Gir, how's that gauge working out for ya? I so wish i bought mine when i had the chance. It probably would have explained some of the issues I was having with my G/A. When you get a chance post some pics with it all hooked up in the car I would like to see it. I don't know about that code it's pulling, I would either say MAF sensor or maybe an o2 sensor...? your guess is good as mine.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

its pretty sweet actually, ive already pulled over for it too

I was out a a local baseball parking lot.. its huge, and I was adjusting some settings and such... I did 1 quick little run and I came back and there is a cop just creepin up on me... so I stopped and didnt even bother, just waited for em to come closer, and sure enough he put on the lights and the whole show while I was adjusting more settings lol

gave em info and w/e, told em I just got the gauge, lol was adjusting some cool stuff... he said my gauge was badass .. did a warrant check and all that lol.. he came back and was like, soo what all have you done to ur car? and talked w/ me for about 5mins about cars LOL (his lights are still going) after that he just asked me to leave the parking lot

installing the gauge took less than 15mins, and it fits nice and clean in the dash... after I cleared that code I was talkin about it hasnt came back yet so not sure

Sounds like an O2 sensor is bad or going bad.
Or your PCM is not tuned correctly

So how did you hook up your gauge,
in the Vent , or did you get the gauge pod for the pillar?

If you put it in the vent make sure you block that vent off or remove the tube to that vent as heat will cook that gauge and it wouldnt be covered under warrnty.
They do warn about this on the PFYC site or the Aeroforce site , one of the two.

I hate chatting with cops
So does the gauge let you set any of the engine perameters like A/F ratio or injector pulse cycles ?

.... back to work I must go .

well I had a 3-pod pillar, and ive been saving the last pod for last for just that gauge...

its simply a PCM scanner, that displays a lot of info like a GMTechII would, with extra features like 1/4 times .. 0-60 ... est HP and MPG... all really runs off of the MAF for those calculations... its still nice to have, gives alot of sensor temps as well, and O2 volts .. manifold psi... and lots more

I think in the future if I were to ever ditch my trans temp.. id replace it with a NOS Psi gauge ... if I decide to do such thing... prob not untill next year

if that code comes back up then ill be concerned.. it could of been just dormant forever and never picked up, like a saved engine code or something... my check engine light is still off from re-connecting that vaccume hose on the back

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

That gauge sounds so sweet you are making me jealous that i didn't get it sooner. However Now that i want one, I found something that will fit the G6!!! So now I have something to look forward too!

I just noticed that they changed the smiley's around again! I would really like it if each person could customize their own top smiley group. For instance, I have no use for this one ---> who uses this one?

Well Back to my swampped desk with work!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Ya Gir I knew it read all those perameters I was just uncertain if it could change perameters like a real Tech II scanner.
The real test is whether it reads ABS codes or not.

So you have your trans temp installed now?
OK, whats your HP reading and your top 1/4 miles times?

Hey grfnkl, that gauge does look sweat!
Kinda like the aeroforce gauges, though your car is the new CAN ODB system.
Even has a USB to download your info.

I was trying to memorize all those smileys but thiers to many.
Ya know I have used that smooch before,
like when you tell someone off real nasty like,
then you throw in that and it makes it all OK

the HP reading is like a 'instant' calc... it determins all of the settings to calculate it and puts it in real time, its a real time dyno w/ no chart lol.... I still have to figure out how to get that tuned so its close.. I was messing w/ it and I put out over 300HP .. was like no no no... I only wish hahaha

the only 1/4 time I did was sorta a bs run but not my best... It went like 15.4 in 1/4 at 88mph or something like that...

after I install the TB ill do more 1/4 times and see what my lowest time is, =)

anyone know what stock 1/4 time is? I just wanna see how much my GA has improved thru the Mods I've done so far

no trans temp as of yet, but soon... when we stop bein lazy and decide to do it lol .. I have a better understanding of where it might be at.. I have looked from under the car to see .. im sure that'll help

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I see you havent read the directions yet
And I would say 300 is probly wrong!
Stock time is slow, around 16-17 sec

Everytime I take off I do a 1/4 mile run

My GT is around 15.4-15.7 @ 96-98mph thats pretty mucha stock. Just the CAI & exhaust
The SE low 13's (slightly mod'd)

I totally understand that, I downloaded the manual when i thought about getting it and I seriously felt like this----> Anyways whats the fun in read the directions when you can just wing it! It's like a new tech toy, cell phone whatev doesn't matter just play with it until you figure it out! Then when you read the manual you find thing you didn't know you had! It makes it that much more fun!

Xi: I know the new CAN OBD port kind of prevents some of these toys from working on my car...

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

just saw the TB coolant byspass thread... might just do that.. it gets hot hurrr in TX no need to pass mor heat thru...

What sort of caps could I put on there? hopefully something that can be clamped down

I was riding the GA pretty hard today and my security light came on... like p1621 or something like that was on the tech gauge

edit:
P1621 - Control Module Long Term Memory Performance

got me, pcm related? hopefully nothing messed up, after car was shutoff, the code was cleared with no problem, hasnt came back

there were 2 codes, but I think this was one... and I forget the other but it was also p16blabla

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Hey Gir,
any type of smaller rubber caps would work.
I would have used something like that but I didnt have anything on hand.
Most part stores carry stuff like this,
I'll see if I can find a link for some of these.

p1621 is pcm memory performance
I wouldnt worry about it unless the car wont start.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Well the deed is done,

In a afternoon me and my friend did the 180stat w/ new ACDelco o-ring, did the throttle body coolant bypass with some plugs found locally, and just clamped em down on the line, they should be fine, not running high amounts of pressure since its just going to be flowing more.... and as well installed my new rsm 62mm throttle body w/ new gasket and $40 heatshield thingy found on pfyc.com...

Overall, Yes!!!!

Engine temp normal is 185F which is nice, the IAT stays somewhat cooler thanks to that heatshield under the TB... and the TB, you can def tell it is bigger than stock, we used a stock sized gasket tho... we thought about filing it to fit the TB but found out that it matched the upper intake so it didnt matter and we let it be... but I def feel a difference I wouldnt say 10HP+ but a good 5-10HP difference.

It sure does pick up a lot quicker than it did , and im happy over all with the install, cause we did everything ourselves, and had coolant everywhere, fun 3-multi-task project tho, still iffy about coolant leaks but I havent found 1 just yet so thats good.

---
other than that, the apartment complex we were moving into "today" turned us down because we make $1000 more than we should, 'budget complex' so we have to find another place....

which means, I might just say screw it.. I have plenty of money saved up for some headers
