Guess I'm lucky

Where I live in Alberta Canada there aren't any emissions laws so trucks around here are complete custom exhaust setups that don't have converters just pipes and mufflers or pipes and glasspacks. I originally went with two 34" Thrush Magnum glasspacks on my truck but that was WAY too loud setting off car alarms and getting unwanted attention from the 5-0 so I went with two flow pro V-force II mufflers that give it an awesome throaty sound but really drones in the cab and almost gives a sensation of vibration through your bones. I dunno for yours I would probably just go with your typical Gibson after-cat system so you can have more performance without breaking the law.

GIBSON CATBACK....most definitly! The others are loud and resonate the cab...not good. The Gibson sounds so cool, a nice mellow burble at idle and a "classic V-8" rumble during acceleration and cruise. Best of all your cab is just about as quiet as the stock setup.....you'll hear just enough exhaust note to put a smile on your face.

I have a single, stock side exit system on my '98 shortbed w/305. The dual rear exit system costs a bit more and probably has a higher "cool factor" to the look but the side exit was cake to put in; I did it in about 1 1/2 hrs and I didn't have to mess with the spare location like you do with the dual system.

...my guess would be "heavy duty"...... both GM and Ford make "HD" versions of their P/U's that usually have a solid front axle with a leaf spring suspension.

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust

1999 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext. Cab (old body style) 305 (5.0 liter) single exhaust

I just had a Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow put on my truck. It is a single in, single out, offset muffler, with 3" inside diameter on both the inlet and outlet. I also opted for a 3" aluminized tail-pipe and a 3" to 3.5" chrome tip. The original piping was 2 3/4" outside diameter. I am pretty happy with the final result. The in cab resonance is barely noticable at idle, definitely noticable when accelerating, and not bad when just cruising. The outside tone sounds really great, especially when I step on it. Idle has a nice outside tone as well. I also was trying to decide between the 50 series Delta Flow and the 40 series Delta Flow and I probably would be just as happy with the 50 series. I'll post in a couple of weeks to let you guys know if the in cab resonance is driving me nuts. Maybe I'll post some pics, as well...

Re: gmc aftermarket exhaust

I have a 1994, 2500, extended cab, 4X4 with a 5.7 engine. Installed a catback to flowmaster single in/dual out. Improved performance, cool sound, gas mileage would probably be better if I weren't hammering it so often. Slight increase in cab noise at highway speeds but not at all annoying as some in this post have complained. However, it probably would not appeal to a sensitive, artistic type person.
