Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
You know I have no idea how you're going to bend and coax that resin back into shape, but you're doing an awesome job on the rest of it, keep it up!!

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
Next we are moving to cutting the chassis to fir the body. It wasn’t really bad, but some changes had to be made – this is what it looked like before I started – obviously it does not fit:
IMG_1511 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1512 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1513 by Italian Horses, on Flick Removed all marked by ovals, and split the chassis where rectangular mark is, then measured the correct wheel base and reattached all together: IMG_1514 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Still some work to do with fine adjustments, but the basic shape is there and I can work with fitting engine bay and interior. IMG_1515 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1516 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Engine bay still missing the firewall and I still need to move inner fenders, but the axle is sitting straight and dead center in the arches – which is good! IMG_1517 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1519 by Italian Horses, on Flickr In the rear I made sure arches fit the fenders and there is enough room for the interior and rear package shelf: IMG_1520 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Chassis plate as it is right now: IMG_1521 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1522 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1523 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Did a light coat of primer just to see what needs to be cleaned up on the plate – lots of work still to do to make this look presentable IMG_1524 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1525 by Italian Horses, on Flickr

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
I don't even know if I should continue with this here as it doesn't seem to garner much interest, but here is next update.
Next phase was making sure interior parts fit the body and the chassis. Made the interior piece straight by boiling it in water: IMG_1570 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Also bent the front body piece to correct curve: IMG_1569 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Fixed the chassis to the body, I started fitting interior elements: IMG_1564 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1565 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Dashboard is not poured all the way, and had a huge hole in it.* IMG_1567 by Italian Horses, on Flickr You think this will be noticeable on the completed model? Really Airtrax? IMG_1563 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Or maybe this gap in the back? How can you make a kit where parts don't fit to each other THAT bad? IMG_1562 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Filled the gap with some putty: IMG_1571 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Before I could fill the dash, decided to fit the firewall - used modified piece from Italeri kit.* IMG_1574 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1573 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Still lots to do before I can even call this a kit!

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
Great work so far Alex. A friend gave me an Airtrax Alfa 2600 that he wants me to build for him and the castings are at least as bad if not worse than this. He said he didn't care how long I took so needless to say it's not high on the build list. You've at least given me some ideas for when I finally build up the ambition to try and tackle it.

I don't know why this isn't getting much interest. This is modeling to the max. I doubt many could overcome the severe problems with this model. Keep going, please.

Great progress! Your issue of the 330 really seems to be… challenging...

That is a good way to put it. Maybe I just got a kit from a bad batch...or something.

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
Alex, thank you so much for showing us this build. I have the Airtrax Aston Martin DBS kit and like yours there is a huge amount of work, so much so I haven't touched it for 6 years.
Watching your build is showing me the light. Please keep sharing your progress, I am really looking forward to seeing the final result. Can I please ask what you used to fill the holes and what putty would you recommend? Many thanks Philip |

I use mostly Milliput 2-part, or Tamiya epoxy putties.

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
Wellll on the not getting much interest - just check the view numbers of this versus your other threads. This one is well ahead of them and those threads, or rather the resulting cars, were a pleasure to watch.
With this I'm just sitting back and asking myself the same questions you do. How can something like this be released with a fit that bad. Is there no trial fit after creating the prototypes? Boggles the mind really. It'll be interesting if you can salvage it and pull of a result like the RX-7. |

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
Good to see you back Alex, you've been away for longer than me! I haven't posted since my epic MFH 250lm build and that was over two years ago.
I'm really enjoying watching a kit as poor as this being transformed it's very satisfying to do and to watch. I hope to be back with a build myself soon if I can find a good free photo host... best of luck with the build. |

Re: Airtrax 1/24 FERRARI 330 GTC
I only come online once every few months or so since I've long stopped building. Every time I come in and see your work it's an inspiration/invitation to get back to it!
Keep up the amazing work! |
