Angry Ecu Failed

I just had a diagnostic done by a friend and was told that the there is a problem with my ecu (the brain of my car). Does anyone know what this means and how much this is going to cost?? I am totally freaked out. Is this a common problem for malibu's? Mine is just 2 years old expired warranty!

Question The problem is...

My car stalls at slow speeds and the engine cuts out when at high speeds. (at erratic intervals) I have it at the dealer right now and they say nothing is wrong with it. I have no where else to turn. I have been to three mechanics and none can find ANYTHING.
PS I'm not the only person who has felt it, but no one who matters has!!!

What is your mileage on the car? If it is less then 80K miles it is still under warranty!

Warranty??

The warranty expired @ 36000 miles I thought. When I called to see if it was under warranty they said no, unless I had purchased an extended warranty (which I didn't) To answer your question, the mileage is only 47000. If it is really under warranty that would be great. I can't even drive it anymore. The car can't ride without stalling for more than 5 minutes. Any advice??

If your car is a 96 or newer then there is a good chance it is still under warranty. You can contact GM customer assisstance to find out for sure!

You have what we call a physical problem with the car. The dealer will scan the car and if something is wrong with the car sensors, they will catch it. But in your case, the problem has to occur when the tech is driving the car. Why don't you ask the service manager to get the foreman or the tech to drive the car for a day or two. That way they will find the problem. I used to road test problem vehicles all the time when I was at the dealership. It shouldn't be any different now. Good Luck.
