Poor Poor Juan Pablo Montoya
First he gets hit in the head with a video camara then he gets his license taking away for two months.
"Montoya was clocked doing 204 km in his BMW roadcar on Sunday on the A8 motorway between Le Muy and Frejus on the French Riviera. Speeds are limited 130 km on French highways." - From TSN.ca Booo :o, hes a Formula 1 Driver you cant take away his DRIVERS license. |

Interestingly, you don't need a "normal" driver's license to drive in F1
but a few weeks ago Markko Martin's license was revoked for repeated speeding offences here, and it was given back illegally (well, not criminally illegally, but by wrongly interpreting the law by the police, a mistake). Anyway, the way I understood it, if his license hadn't been given back to him he would have been unable to participate in the rally! Though they do drive on open roads there between stages, so it makes sense. Alex

yeah but see he gets it all back in 2months.
now in Australia, doing 204kms on any road would be automatically loss of licence for at least 12months. go over the 110km limit on some i repeat some highways by 20kms and you loss it for 2months. |

I remember when Senna got pulled over for speeding in the UK and the police reportedly asked him, "Who do you think you are, Nigel Mansell!" :hehehe:

Revoking a licence has nothing to do with whether the driver in question was wrong, it is a question of the other people's lives they endanger. Why should an F1 or WRC driver get away with speeding on normal roads?

Do you have something against speeding? Wanting him to get suspended the rest of the season? Im not condoning it and I myself usually never do more then 10 KM over the posted speed limit.

Yes and no. Sure I have broken the speed limit by quite a bit in the past. I also am very aware of the dangers of it and also it is against the law.
He has commitments to a race team, job, country etc. He and anyone else who is a publicly visiable figure should also not be treated any different than joe blogs when caught breaking the law. I have nothing against any driver at all in F1. I enjoy watching everyone of them race. Rules are rules and if you break them you should be punished.

Let me get one thing straight.
An F-1 driver doesn't need a regular drivers license to race. He needs a FIA F-1 Super License to do so. So his 2003 F1 campaign is not under thread. That being said, speeding is unacceptable. Whoever is the driver. It starts with 10km/h and it ends with xxkm/h. Oh and I remember the Senna incident too |
