99 Tahoe rear window switch, window won't go up

99 Tahoe rear window switch, 4 door old body style 4 wheel drive police package

window won't go up with the rear window switch or the drivers side main switch
all other windows work
I think I hear the motor when try the switch but no go

Someone said you can take a paper clip and get it to roll up, but what wires are what
watched a couple of you tube videos but they all bring out jumper cables and they lost me by talking about other things and not telling me what is what

Do you need jumper cables ?
I know there is a black wire brown wire green wire, orange wire can't think of the other 2 and it is pouring rain here non stop in Florida
don't know how long the plastic will stay on window to keep rain out and also got to drive back and forth to work in the rain

Please help - Thank You in Advance

If neither switch is working, but you think you hear the motor, then jumping wires isn't going to help either.

Jumper cables or a jump box will be necessary to get your power and ground. If you get to the motor itself you could try jumping one way or the other, but I think the issue is the regulator itself from your description.

Re: 99 Tahoe rear window switch, window won't go up

So how do I check it out to see if the motor is getting power or if it is the switch

I am able to do most things
and have changed out other window regulators in past vehicles and new it was the regulators window was off track and could move the window by hand with ease

The window is solid in track no moving by hand

Thanks

A test light or a multimeter will help in your diagnosis.

Stealthee is correct. You're likely going to need to undress the door to access the motor connector. Don't rule out the master switch. The NC contact there supply power to the individual door switches. Been there.

The good news is that the Alps switches are serviceable.

Re: 99 Tahoe rear window switch, window won't go up

Thanks, I do have both test light and multi meter
between work and losing power haven't had a chance to respond till now

so how do I test please
and anything else that would be useful
don't really want to put out money for a new regulator and motor unless I have too

Thanks

Re: 99 Tahoe rear window switch, window won't go up

Expose the window motor connector and unplug it. Connect a voltmeter (or 12V test light) and try the switches. If you have a digital meter you should notice the polarity reverse as the switches are alternated between the "up" and "down" directions. If the rear door switch does nothing, try the master on the driver's door.

If you do get power, start looking at the motor. Before completely condemning the regulator motor, reconnect the power connector to it and back-probe the wiring to see if voltage applied is correct with the load (motor) in the circuit. If not, the switch contacts are suspect. If so, the motor is suspect.

If you get nothing while actuating the switches with the motor disconnected, break out the diagram and start tracing.
