Ignition lock cylinder

Hello Members,

I own a '94 Probe GT (5 spd). Less than 30K actual miles. I'm in Canada.

Some 'shit for brains' tried to ram something in the ignition

in order to steal it. Its damaged so I have to remove and

replace it. The original keys won't fit into it anymore.

Is a Mazda MX6 ignition lock cylinder the same type used

in the Probe? If not, then any ideas where I can buy replacement

parts would be appreciated. I want to avoid the dealer, though I don't

know if they'd even carry parts for it anymore.

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

Orchid, while the mx6 might be interchangeable; i can find out tomorrow at work..
sorry for bozo jacking (or attempting to) your ride.. what there wasn't any accords or f-150s in the area.. seriously though,
i think the 2 different ford part numbers are:
F32Z11582B and F62Z6122050AB; and i think since the vehicle is no longer supported by FoMoCo, it will be more difficult, and more expensive to track one down..
plus, you are in canada, so anything coming from the us will probably be almost twice the amount in taxes/tariffs/mark-ups/shipping/etc..
i will confirm tomorrow if mazda swaps in, and if yours is available from any ford canada outlets; but their is another option...
--when my 93 subaru legacy ingition went out, no aftermarket, and subaru wanted over 275 usd!! that's almost how much i spent for the whole project car.. so, i removed the cylinder, gutted it, and re-installed it empty (w/o lock or anti-theft) and the key was just to basically for turning lights and radio on; and i installed a fourteen dollar heavy duty 14 volt push button starter on the dash and wired batt. to starter and no ignition switch needed..
you might see if amazon.ca has it available.. even if not a member, if it is 35-55 dollars it is still free ship, but i would not pay above $85 for what should be a 15-20 dollar part.
will post again in 10-12 hours..

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

sorry.. neighbor pulled in w/ a stupid 90s bimmer in 'limp' closed loop..
dang ADL is a friggin 220V dryer plug.. had to fab a 16 pin connector?!
ok, that's done..
your actual part # F62Z11582AB this is 94 probe 4cyl/5spd
--(others were for auto and 6cyl.)
is not avail from amazon & affiliates..
sold out on ebay..
ford/lincoln/mercury in colorado wants $300 and has to be ordered..
if you have LKQ online access in canada, might try them..
Dorman makes a lock cyl for ford/mazda WITH a sleeve, that might work for your
vehicle, as it does have same diameter and length (you just may not need to transponders activated) it is part# 989-711 for like $65usd.. (which may or may not be avail. in canada)
another dorman number shone was # 924-796 which was less money, but did not come with the additional sleeve and shoulder; that might be needed for probe/mx models?
i do not know, i am a GM guy by trade..
hope this helps a little.. with that OEM ford#, should be able to find out what else it came in; maybe find used in pre-obdII car at salvage..
if these options do not pan out,
and you don't want to gut the lock cyl, and just slide it back in, and use your key or screwdriver; you could swap out the actual ignition switch:
standard # US284 or BeckArnley # 201-1802
to a different ford/mazda product to allow a $16 lock cylinder (taurus/sable, dime a dozen) to attach to it..
hope this helps..

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

Thank you man
That was a lot of valuable info,
although my GT has the V6.
I'm about to try to remove the old
one. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

you do not have to remove steering wheel;
4 lower column panel screws, open clam shell;
remove lock cyl. illumination bulb from lower column panel,
disconnect elec. ignition switch;
should be 1 or 2 detents/pins, or a set screw holding
cylinder in place..
(hey, they've already jacked it up; not like you can break it, haha)

Re: Ignition lock cylinder

I don't know if there is a way to cross reference it, but the part number for the MX-6 ignition switch is H38066151 or H38066151A depending on production date.

Actually looking more it looks that both of those were superceded by H3Y066151 which appears to be available for around $50 if it is indeed a match.

Stealthee is right on this mazda switch being interchangeable with the motorcraft ignition switch; but Wild Orchid hasn't said if they messed up the electrical switch as well, or just the lock cylinder and key assembly..

then, that's settled.. if it is not only the electric switch, but a cylinder and new keys; as Wild Orchid mentioned they jambed the cylinder and his keys no longer work, then this is the easy 'affordable' swap...

figures ford would discontinue, and other umbrella companies would try to keep component platforms running.. nice find..

Smile Re: Ignition lock cylinder

Hey guys,

I've been busy with other stuff, namely trying to buy a Cadillac CTS Coupe.

I like that model. Unfortunately the seller turned out to be a flake and I

walked away.

Meanwhile, I'd found a lock cylinder (thanks Stealthee) at Rockauto ($142

CDN), crossed with the Mazda part. I bought it cuz as I've mentioned, the car

has less than 50K miles on it.

Anyhow, I got the cylinder installed as well as the lock switch, which the thief

had also destroyed, the car fired up without effort.

I just want to tell each of you who responded that I really appreciated

everything you had to offer. After weighing what you guys described along

with the age of the car and the amount of effort involved, I thought it best to

go with the new part since already Rockauto had one. BTW: a number of

parts places locally told me there are none in Canada. lol
