Monte Carlo not shifting
I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS limited edition . I have no gears except first and reverse. it will not go into 2nd or any other. a code reader said something about the shifting parameters? I wanted to know if it would be the shifting solenoid. or something I could fix myself

Re: Monte Carlo not shifting
Well the shifting is controlled by the pcm, all electronic, no way to pin this down, without the proper info.

Re: Monte Carlo not shifting
Unless you can get this DIRT CHEAP, I'd reconsider buying a car with shifting issues.

Re: Monte Carlo not shifting
I'm going to bet the forward band is broke. That requires a full trans tear down to even fix it. With the forward band broke it will take off in 1st and you can manually shift from there, but it wont last long.
