Don't buy 1.6 ecoboost!!!!!!
My wife and I got a new 2016 ford Escape 1.6L ecoboost.it has been a nightmare. When we got the sun it had 12 miles on it(10 of witch we put on test driving). I myself have always owned fords. My 2006 f150 has 263000 miles and still going. Anyways at 65000 miles the turbo went out on the ecoboost. Do to a problem with the wastgate. A problem fords knows about. I have had to replace other things on the car and now the escape sits and a repair shop needing a head or a block. At first they thought It was the turbo again. But that was ruled out. I still owe over 12000 on the suv and I can't afford to keep putting money into this car. It has cost me over 5000 just to keep it going. And its only 4 years old. And I get no help from fords. The funny thing is all the problems seems to be the same problem that they have had with all the earlier models. My vin even has a x that they say to look out for. But my vin isn't in the recall list. I'm so over fords. They have no respect for people who have been loyal to them. So I have a yard ornament until its paid off. Had to buy a cheap car so my wife has a car.

Re: Don't buy 1.6 ecoboost!!!!!!
They have good engineers and designers, then the accountants think they know better and too many times the fight is lost on doing things so that they last more than the warranty. My 2005 Expedition has been sitting in my drive waiting to get another timing chain set put in. It only has 98,000 miles on it. My 98 F150 has almost 200,000 and my 15 F150 has a 120,000 with no problems. The 02 Escape also had tons of problems and got rid of it after the last time I got it to run with no codes around 100,000. After the 2015, I'm never buying new. They will have to be old enough to find out if they will last, what problems creep up out of age.

Re: Don't buy 1.6 ecoboost!!!!!!
At this point, only the 1.6L 1.5L (4-cylinder) and 2.0L Turbos are afflicted with the block problem. I'd avoid any 3-cylinder engine because of NVH issues. That includes the 1.0 you're talking about and the new 1.5 in the Escape and Bronco Sport.
Your best bet is to find a non-turbo Ford engine. BUT, be aware that the dual-clutch auto transmissions in both the Fiesta and Focus are the subject of class-action settlements, so avoid those as well. Which doesn't leave much, Ford-wise. |
