Intermittent sound from wheel when turning left

Hey guys, my wife just recently alerted me to a noise that just started coming for our Sebring. It's coming from the front drivers side wheel only when turning left and sounds like metal on metal but not very loud and it's very intermittent. Some times it will do it when just barely turning, sometimes it will do it at a sharp angle and sometimes it wont do it all. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it. I can also hear it very faintly when moving in reverse, turning the steering wheel to the right.

Obviously my question is what could this be and secondly is it safe to drive on it? This is our only car and were still a bit away from payday.

Likely problem would be wheel bearing on wheel opposite the way you turn when noise is heard. If noise is when you turn left, replace passenger side wheel bearing.
Hope that helps.
